That is interesting. I knew it would have white pinstripes dividing red and orange, but I didn't expect the black. As the description says, it seems to be imitating a Daylight. A steam-locomotive-inspired diesel scheme... that's a new one. It's certainly intense.
Looks more like the steam version than the diesel version of the Daylight. I kind of like it. It sure will stand out.
I was expecting some Black Widow influence--I don't really see any? What sharp scheme!! I'm no SP purist, so I think it looks just dandy!
Still reckon this would've been better: http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=61432&d=1153019109 Ahwell, it looks good tho.
It has all the color components of the Black Widow (black, orange, red, and silver). Looks like the emphasis is on the Daylight scheme. Not bad.
Good choice of colors. Black, orange and red is a nice combo, whatever the scheme. ck (waiting patiently for this unit to find so cal)
It is obvious that someone let Doyle McCormack loose in the paint shop back there where they painted it. I LOVE it!!! Wouldn't it look great as the (required) diesel helper on 4449's trip to Bend next month? YEAH! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Thats fantastic!!! Not what I thought they might do but I definately think it is cool!! Sharp and bright! Totally different from anything on the rails too. I'm impressed!
Interesting aside... we are in the Bay Area at the moment. A weather forecast on KCBS Radio in the 11 AM hour was done live from Roseville and the weathercaster announced that the Union Pacific was unveiling this locomotive "in tribute to the late, great Southern Pacific Railroad" today. Very unexpected! I guess there is at least one railfan on the staff at KCBS!
That looks good. Just like a GS-4 in daylight. Perfect. I never liked the Diesel version of the daylight, but this is good.
Alan's got it....Gaudy!!!! Anyone remember when they used to paint cars and trucks on the sides of busses? Here we have a lame attempt to paint a Beautiful Steam locomotive on the side of a toaster!!! I think they bashed the Daylight out of the Black widow on this one! 2slim
I agree with Alan on this one it is GAUDY!!!!! Probably the ugliest one of the bunch. Don't throw stones it is MY opinion and I am entitled to it.
Personally I think they have gotten better as they proceeded with these. The first two bear no resemblance to anything that RR had. This is nice and the Grande was well done. The CNW unit I did not get to see.
The CNW unit could have been painted in there shops in 1990. That's how close it is. Which caused it's own bit of controversy. And who told Ed he was entitled to an opinion? I thought we all agreed he was not.
My opinion part 2: I think there are way to many lines in the engine.A daylight scheme would have been awesome but what they have done to it is way too busy for me.Also the silver trucks and fuel tank should have been left Black. That would have made the engine look so much better but it is MY opinion.I think we all have our favorites and dislikes in this series. Naturally they are trying to blend several different schemes into one like they did with the Katy and Mopac units.I have seen both of those units and think they did a great job with them.I have likded all of the Heritage units that have been produced it just seems to me that this is the Busiest on they have done. They really could have done several different schemes in the Heritage series and made me happy.I would love to see more Jenk's Blue and Screaming Eagles running around. That is one of my favorites....
