A little work on the cab this morning, top is smoothed out, now I’m working the windows again. Pics to follow soon.
I feel I’ve reached the point of diminishing returns on the cab. Black tomorrow. Then letting and numbers.
Booster line with MT spring, the lower portion will move out of the way if the trailing truck swings into it.
Just need to add some decals, weathering and a few finishing touches. trying to decide if I want sunshades or not. Hmmmm….
Getting close. I’ve used numerous brass models as reference and several thoughts come to mind. 1. This model is available in every major scale except for N, which is supposed to be the 2nd most popular scale behind HO. How many people really model S scale? There was one made…. 2. Each model has slightly different details and equipment placement for various items. If they were designed off drawings, then they should be identical. It’s hard to determine what is right and what is close enough. I chose the later in this build. 3. BLI either needs to scale down their HO version or we need to get a brass importer back into N scale.
Some letters and numbers. I let each side dry completely before moving to the other…yeah a lesson learned from a previous project. I airbrush quick shine floor finish (formerly Future) where the decals will be placed. Once they are dry, I’ll recoat with the gloss to hide the carrier film. Once done, some dull coat to bring it all together.
it is one of the SP’s ugliest ducklings, that’s for sure. They decided to just wreck the lines other roads’ berks.
How much does one in S scale fetch? Profit per unit sale tips the profitability scale for making a viable production run. I mean how many Chirons has Bugatti made?
And there you go. If the retailer is making, say, 22% profit on one, that’s $250. And say the manufacturer makes $150, and a distributor clears $100. If an N scale model costs one tenth of that, and has the same margins, then move the decimal place one spot to the left to find out the unit profit to every point in the supply chain, and you can see how the enthusiasm for manufacturing low-dollar-cost items dries up, unless unit sales are expected to be high. Very nice work on the Berk, btw.
I reused the smoke box door from the original. I filled the center hole and put a new one in the bottom. The factory light slide in. At some point I’ll install a micro LED. Right now it is dimly lit from the factory Kato light.
Cool, that's what I was after. I have some ATSF Berkshires to do with Coffin Feedwater Heaters so this has been very helpful - thank you!
