You can lay track without joiners pretty easily. It also means better running since every section of track will have a feeder.
That's certainly an interesting situation. I admit electrically you could probably get by without joiners, but then there would still have to be something done to get and keep the mechanical connection.
So.....Have you tried any of the dealers that advertise on this site? For example: http://fiferhobbysu770.corecommerce.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=11664 http://www.tophobbytrains.com/2090railjoinersforcode55flextracknscale.aspx http://wig-wag-trains-cart.com/atla...k/atl-2090-code-55-metal-rail-joiners-24-pack http://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/atlas/n-code-55-track-rail-joiner-24-pcsblister-2090/
No reason for anyone to be out of stock on the joiners - we have thousands in inventory, and have since the beginning of June.
While I don't use code 55 I did just for curiosity check my favorite big supplier up near Baltimore. The old standard rail joiners show an inventory of 137 packages but the code 55 shows zero, which is strange since I thought the inventory backlog on stuff code 55 would have been caught up by now. Either that or the demand caused by the shortage has depleted stocks and new stocks have yet to arrive. Have you tried ordering direct from Atlas?
Or the guy ordering isn't doing what he's supposed to do. This isn't an Atlas problem. It's a store front problem.
So glad to hear atlas has overcome that huge hurdle! I thought the day wouldn't come soon enough. Thanks Atlas!
