A winter day on the B&M. No info with the photo, but I assume a light traffic branch line in NH.

I found this awesome 1916 video of a rotary snowplow working in Norway! The locomotive is a 4-8-0, which would have been fun to watch and ride!

And a few slides from the Norwegian state radio/TV station, some very pretty steam loco's!

Blowing and snowing and a bit chilly! But, a loaded coal train from a fun point of view, so here we go! Of course the NS SD70ACe helped . . .

A cloud got me moments before train time. 5 minutes prior to this, it was bright sun.
    Oh well.

Hemi, did you happen to catch #7 that got turned around at Glasgow cause of the avalanche threats on Marias Pass? It was put together with the EB #8 from what I heard!

    I believe it was yesterday.

"Banging across what sounds like a loose joint? Broken rail?"

Naw just a slightly worn joint. The yard lead is not as well maintained as the main. When I did those quick pans following the couplers bouncing, that was the location of the joint. The sound was mildly amplified by the ballast car beside me and the proximity.

And yesterday, this trio of ACe's roll an empty westbound out of Glendive. Sunshine on bright snow highlighting all the 'texture' of the badlands here. Lots of flat wheels to hear!

Went to Billings on Sunday for a Monday surgery for the wife's wrist. (Which went well.) And in the light and blowing snow, I was able to catch two westbound trains, an empty coal train Decker bound, and a loaded grain westbound. And was able to get a view from both sides! With a lot of snow to go, which i do enjoy!

As a teen living in the Chicago area, I remember shooting pictures in the snow on sunny days and meter readings were always f/16 at some crazy high shutter speed like 1/1000 or greater. Add in a white locomotive like the J's Bi-Centennial 668 and settings went to the extreme. [Barrington, IL 02/08/1976]
