Does anyone know of a way to convert a stock Atlas C55 turnout, into a "snap" style
turnout, similar to Peco turnouts? I seem to recall something long ago. But not sure
when or where I saw the idea. Seem to recall a piece of wire, maybe an inch long, with a 30* (?)
bend, to provide tension to the points.
Any help/photos/dimensions would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

    A metal spring can work...

This is probably what you're looking for:

This idea from Dan Crowley doesn't have the "snap" that you're looking for, but it's very simple to do, and the mechanism holds the point rail against the stock rail very nicely.

One thing to be aware of is that neither of these ideas powers the frog. For that reason, many of us prefer to use a slide switch to lock the throw bar and route power to the frog.

The ground throws are interesting. But the
video is perfect! Recall seeing an article on this.
    The video is almost perfect.

Has me wondering if a standard Staple would be sturdy enough to use.
Just add the kink, and done! Will have to look into that, but still swing
by HobbyTown and see if they've got the wire size mentioned.

    Many Thanks!

The idea looks great, just the wire sounds a little too stout. But I haven't actually done it so maybe should keep my pie hole shut. If you have something smaller laying about (.01"/ .015") I'd be inclined to try that. You can always go bigger if it proves to be not enough. In that rig shown I suspect the tie flex is affording as much of the spring action as the spring. I'd be curious to hear how it works out, either way.

I used a mini slide switch to power the frog and bent piano wire to provide tension.

You're welcome, Rich. I should have mentioned that the video is not mine, although I have used that method to modify turnouts.

I also use the ear-stud idea for 'short-term' solutions awaiting installation of push-rods. (Two of which are still being used after more than 4 years.)

For those who have done this, was the .020" wire appropriate or possibly a little stiff as I voiced concern. I'm curious for my own future use. Thanks.
