You could put a sound module with a motion sensor under the module so when someone walks by they will look for the rattler.

This would be a first. Now you'll have to make some!

I got a lot of work done yesterday and today, so the major portion of the desert is complete. Still have a lot of detail work (signage, fencing, flora and fauna, dirt around bottoms of buildings, etc) to take care of this weekend.

Here is a close up of the town of San Felipe. Note the remains of the old rail roadbed and the tracks in front of the depot

And, pulling out a bit to see the remains of the old burnt out trestle that led into town

Here is looking across the ghost town towards the large mesa on the other side of the wash. The ruined brick buildings are from Downtown Deco, the sheriff and gas station are Randy Brown Models. The burnt out building is the new ghost town casting from Fifer, and the depot is the Frijole Flat Depot from Showcase Miniatures

    Looks sharp!
Going to have any tie remains along the abandoned main?
To indicate the railroad actually ran there in the past.

There are a few already along the old right of way, as well as rusted track and ties, covered in sand and dirt, if front of the depot. I plan to add a few more ties, and maybe a stray rail segment.

Love the look Rick, making me homesick.....

Something else to use as vegetation would be Trichocereus Pachanoi Cactus

This was used as a sort of natural fencing, as well as dried and lashed together for cheap shade panels

Hmmm, good idea. Was wondering about what else to use. Thanks.

This has been a very fun module to build, and of course there is the added challenge of scenery that has to be perfectly secure, unlike on the home layout,

Looks good Rick. I like the slight color variations here and there and the hints of what was there in the past.

Also, if you are going to have Saguaros, then they also had barrel cactus in close proximity and other smaller variations. Not sure how to pull that off except some small paleish green sprigs here and there. This is because they would shed water when they became too "full". Unfortunately the rise in relative humidity is slowly killing off the Saguaros. They can not shed the excess water fast enough to keep form drowning.

A good desert scene is much more challenging to make than grass and trees. There has to be a bit of anger in the scenery because of the heat.

Some more landscaping progress around the town of San Felipe this morning. I found the package of Grand Central Gems cacti I bought a few years ago, but now cannot find my coyotes!

    Here's the depot

And an angle slightly to the right. I really love this photo

A wide angle shot of the ghost town, to show how the flora work progressed

And this is a stacked focus shot, looking across the gas station towards the depot and mesa

You need a Gaucho leaning against the wall taking a siesta in the shade at that depot...with his burro tied up to one of the pillars... ;)

Huh, I was certain I looked through all the WS figures.. And they have two different sets with a donkey!

Even the Grand Central Gems are a bit big. I cut them down, and the smaller barrel cacti are just the cut tops of the GCGs larger ones. The small "flat" cacti, like the prickly pear, are the WS.
