I am very happy with these decals! The Sierra Railroad has always been a favorite of mine, and now these have made it possible to have some models from that line. :)

To everyone that has contacted me about decals.....

They are sealed up in their envelopes and ready to go. I didn't get to the post office before they closed today, a train got in the way.... The local IORY ran through around noon and my son and I went railfanning, an hour or so later I realized we weren't going to make it back in time to pick up the envelopes and get to the post office.

The one person I haven't heard from is the originator of the topic...James Norris

    James, are you out there?

That will work too! Are you going to include the original GP40 numbers in the 6000 series too? :)

I haven't really researched it far enough yet to see what numbers this paint scheme applies too. The 4034 is what John and I see locally, that and the 4085 (SD40-2). I will set it up to cover as many numbers as possible.

In the meantime, I am working on some MTBA stuff for John.

I'll see what I have pictures of when I worked for them. I know the last one I ran was the 6740. The number style was a little different too. (And don't forget the GP30's, those were in the 80's....81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87.) :)

We need to start a new topic for this, I was just looking at the GP30's and for some reason it hadn't dawned on me that the scheme was the same, just the upper half white instead of an all red loco.

Looks like I need to expand the sheet a bit.

I got my decals last night, and the printing is rather good.

I decided to sacrifice my V&T #28 and turn her into Sierra #18, as the 18 is the closest prototype to the MDC/Athearn 2-8-0. The V&T numbering and lettering came off easily with 70% rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip, so I didnt have to repaint the engine. The rest was a easy decal job. I ended up with a great looking locomotive with almost no hard work. The tender is hiding a decoder, so the oil bunker is a little tall.

Edit: I should add that I didn't remove the V&T#28 number plate with rubbing alcohol as the the rubbing alcohol seemed to damage/dissolve the smoke box paint. I just put decals right over it, using one of the small black circles to cover the numbers first.

You can even read the builder number on the builder plate. Built 1906, but I knew I wouldn't be able to read that part, so I didnt change it.

The only problem with the decals that I had was with the orange decals. The orange/white layers make the decal a little thick, and they don't conform well to the detail underneath. So I used some Micro-sol to soften the decal, but it dissolved some of the orange paint, so I just stopped there. For these decals, seal the orange decals with an acrylic clear coat before placing the on the model. Then you should be able to use all the micro sol you want without dissolving the orange.

For the orange, I can print some up o/w the white layer if Curn thinks that would be helpful.

No reprints are needed for the orange. The white is needed to show up on the black. The real problem is that the orange ink is slightly soluble in the Micro-Scale Micro-sol solution that is used to get decals to conform to irregular surfaces. A thin, but complete coating of clear coat is a way to avoid this.

I really only mentioned it for Skipgears next project. Those long orange decals will need to wrap around all the diesels access doors, and shell detail. He should consider airbrushing them with a clear coat too keep them as thin as possible. Then use micro-sol to his hearts desire.
