The real question is, how many of you actually run all those engines. My fleet is only about 30 units, but most of them have barely ever run. I'm fixing that problem.

One guy who has a small fleet actually has a really nice large layout. I thought that was interesting.

    Modeling D&RGW

    Era 1 staging (1950-1960)

Although the Grande dieselized rapidly during this decade, steam could still be seen in the early 1950s. The road would later become an all-EMD shop, but a few Alcos (S2, RS-3, and PA/PB) were in use, as were Baldwin switchers (H15/44).

Traingeekboy - In answer to your question; while I have a small layout and my mainline only amounts to a third of a mile plus, I want to duplicate those 1960's "dogs breakfast" lash-ups of makes and models.

Since I have ~30 mainline units, they will be divided into "lines north" and "lines south", even if off-layout. Engine consists will be based on drawing cards for the engines on a particular train from either "north" or "south", and what is appropriate for a local or through freight.

Hopefully, in this way I'll be able to duplicate some of those lash-ups common on the Seaboard in the 1960's. Since my branch line will only see one or two trains per day to a deadend, all power will be drawn from the "west" end.

Any chance of a 3600 in your fleet? A 3550-series?

Hey, as long as it gives you that glazed happy look, it's all good. :D

My big frustration is that when I was financially capable of having a loco habit most of what I wanted wasn't being made yet. Now they make the stuff, but I'm busy supporting a family. Grrrr... :p

Wish I could afford to get one of those Rs11 units with DCC in N scale. Perhaps when I retire. :)

My roster hasn't grown much since this thread was first started. I think you can add a SD90MAC, and about 4 more SD40-2's in UP paint.

    2 Atlas GP40's
    2 LifeLike GP38-2s
    1 Bachmann F3 or F7....not sure which
    1 Lifelike GP20 with Atlas GP9 shell

Big list huh?? My layout at it's biggest point measures 39" x 27" and a shelf branch that measures 18" x 5'....more then enough motive power for a layout this size.

My loco roster hasn't grown that much. There are 36 diesels with decoders, usually in ABBA consists, and 17 steamers. My inactive roster is about the same size--older stuff that doesn't have decoders. I have an inventory around someplace--I guess I should find it and update it.
