Obviously, it wont be long before I can't fit all the engines and cars I own on my tiny Rokuhan starter loop :p
I'd like to see some of your "storage sheds" for Z scale rolling stock and engines. I'm thinking of making a "picture frame" or "medicine chest" type cabinet to hang on the wall near my coffee table layout. Something with a mirror or sunset background and plexi door face. With horizontal shelves with tracks on them. So the trains can be viewed at eye level on the wall and easily removed for wicked train action. So not really storage for transport, although ideas for that are also welcome. Frank from Zscale hobo mentioned someone using jewelry boxes? Putting my trains back in their boxes for storage is no fun at all. What are you all using?

Not intended for display at home but my preferred way of transporting the stock to shows

The basic case was a Barbeque toolset with the tools thrown away! The trays were constructed in perspex. You'll see there is a picture in the lid, this tells me where the models go at the end of the show when I am packing up

The top tray sits in the lid exposing the bottom layer. As you swap trains over during the show it makes it a whole heap easier.

Not all the foam packing is in but you can see how the couplers are protected in transit.

All the stock boxes are then carried in a padded bag with zips and live under the passenger seat of the X-trail well away from the rest as baseboards and electrical boxes get stowed in the car

FWIW I did order a BBQ set from Amazon to get the case. I just have to start cutting perspex and foam now and get 'er done. And maybe grill something while I'm at it.

I built some stackable trays with foam inlay.

I love that foam you got. I was wondering what kind of foam or shelves to put in my case. Having the cars like that displays them very well. But I don't know where I will find foam sheets like that...

    Here's mine... trainshelf1.jpg trainshelf2.jpg

This is an HO shelf that I bought off of Amazon. It is both tall and deep enough for me to have a stairstep within each shelf to have twice the capacity. (so effectively 12 rows of trains) This is what I plan to do but haven't yet. I do really love how it looks, and being able to see some of the collection on a daily basis is nice.

I decided to get one of those wall mount cases, excellent idea to get the HO size and double the storage capacity. Not that I will ever need that much storage but once and done is also a nice idea!

Does anyone know of a name for a foam sheet like the one exact modellbau pictured? I imagine I could get anything on Ebay or Amazon if I knew what to call it...

Hey that is good! You are correct a lot of the translation is a mess but it is highly technical so the translator gets lost. But there is enough correct that I can understand what the goal is and sometimes what is being done. It is better than just looking at the pictures. Thank you.

Some links don't want to work, but if You choose "open in a new tab" on right mouse click, it works.
