Well I wanted to start a new thread. I was wondering how many of you out there scratch build your buildings and rolling stock. I model in G scale and 2 things have well forced me into scratch building. 1). PRICE 2). Availability. Its sad to say that in my case in G scale if its available its BLEEPING expensive! So show us you scratch built / kit bashed projects. I’ll started it off with a few of my favorites. Here is a link to my web page, the section on my scratch bulit roundhouse, it took me 6 months to bulid in G scale : http://www.eclipseauctions.us/davp/round_house/ Ok this will have to be in a few posts. Sorry....
Part 3 Here is a scratch built store, I made in memory of a dear friend, “ Less Olver “ who was a station agent here in Dunkirk on the NYC – CR for many years.
Last part Here is a false front hotel near the round house: Here are 2 buildings in remembrance of my mother and father: Ok now I have shown some of mine, lets see yours !!! Thanks guys…..
Those are great phantom. I also model in large scale (1:20.3), and here are some of mine: Currently working on a roundhouse, which should be ready in a few months.
I like this thread Here is an Nscale passenger depot that I built about 4 years ago. It was my first scratchbuilt structure. It will soon be replaced with one of the new Atlas stations. I may turn it into a freight depot or something. Eric
Umm, Sean, did you have to get a building permit for that round house? I went to your sight and saw that it has a footprint of 6X8 feet and that doesn't include the 3 foot turntable. My entire layout isn't that large! Excuse me while I go finish turning green with envy. Eric
Eric - I'll bet his boxcars are bigger than some people's layouts. Then again, you should see his outdoor layout.
Friedrich Air Condioioning Wow! You will need a real hammer and saw to build those large scale buildings! In N scale, I just think "glue" construction. But, funny you should ask about scratchbuilding buildings. I may have 2-3 on my layout, but I usually just kitbash. Here is Friedrich Air Conditioning. Unique in size and shape; construction in styrene and taken from photos.
I've been replacing kit builts with scratchbuilts in a lethargic pattern, but making progress. All N scale First major scratchbuild of an enduring nature was back about 1977 with the Flagstaff, AZ depot. This has been in the magazines. About a year later I did the Winslow, AZ depot - this also now on its second layout - now with the yardmaster office, the water treatment building, and the water tower: About two years ago I finished the toughest one yet - the La Posada Harvey House at Winslow, AZ: Also have done a lot of the downtown Flagstaff structures of note like this low-relief version of the Hotel Monte Vista, along with the entire block in front of it, building for building: I have a SMALL layout, so I can take the time to do this. I'd never get to it if it were an entire basement empire. Love those G scale buildings though, particularly the shot with the smoke. That's choice!
My last scratchbuilding project were two trestles: trestle construction Some time ago I've build the KWIK-E-MART following an article in MR. The name idea came from my son. Decades ago I've scratchuild my station "Naumburg", following prototype drawings. That's me with model in front of prototype, in 1993. More at my Naumburg site. Wolfgang
WOW - Great looking layout!!!!!!! Maybe you can start a G Scale forum topic and share more about this layout.
N Scale Scratch Here are a couple of buildings that I built from scratch in N scale. Grain Elevator Intermodal Check-In Gate & Office
Wolfgang, I noticed your "trestle constuction" is in another language and I was wondering if there was a translated version that I missed? Or could you tell me how you got the rippling effect in your water? Awesome work by the way! Thanks. -Anthony.

Wolfgang, that station is beautiful, esp. with the rather complicated looking roof. Mike, wasn't that check-in gate featured in an article or something a bit back?
Excellent structures, guys. Some real talent and craftsmanship on display here!! I've been working on my HO machine & blacksmith shop on and off now for about a year. Lots of Rio Grande Models and SS Ltd machine and hand tools. This is it so far,
Some of my scratchbuilt cars. first, a log car, one of about 20 I've built. My pile driver. Parts car. My A frame ballast car
