I assume it is, it was listed as proto 2000 but as far as I know they have not made them. I had one of these made by intermountian years are but sold it when I was out of the hobby for a while, one of my regrets which I have now rectified
I bought these at the beginning of August, but I finally had a chance to get pictures and get them uploaded. The LHS in Lodi California had a customer appreciation sale. The street had been torn up and replaced and that work was done while they were also trying to clear out old inventory in order to make room for new. They had a lot of engines at ridiculously good deals. I know a number of people who got Athearn Genesis SD70ACes with full DCC/Sound for $180 a pop. Me? I had both a much thinner pocketbook and much more modest hopes. I grabbed 3 engines and a copy of Trains Mag for about $120. The first a B23-7 Atlas Silver line no DCC for a cool $40 This is a U23B It's older. The box just says Atlas and is red and black, but it's a fabulous looking unit too. $32 Finally, this Bachman Spectrum Dash 8-40CW was $45. Alas, it's the older version without DCC, but still, a sharp looking model and I can always use more superfleet. All of those were about 60% off their most recently marked price and around 75% off the price the LHS originally was selling em at.
I was quite pleased. I'm going to put non-sound decoders in these. At least for now so the MOST these are going to cost is another $20 a piece and some time with the Soldering Iron to go DCC.
You seem to be an advocate of what I call the Hobbyist's First Rule of Buying Stuff: Thou Shalt Not Pay Full Retail Price. Any day one can snap up quality stuff for a low price is a good day.

Nice locos. I am still amazed by the detail on the new locos. Remember how we used to only have cast on detail just a couple decades ago? Man have we come along way.
I have not seen one of the athearn genesis GP7's in person, how do they compare to the old Proto 2000 ones?
Two of my more recent European purchases: An old Airfix GWR Prairie Tank kit (that came with the original box) A Rowa TEE dining car from, I would say, the 1980's
I got this at a flea market for 30 dollars(US). It is a Proto CSX SD60 in the stealth grey scheme. I added small detail parts, painted the ends yellow and added new CSX decals, added all those little "warning" decals and such, and even opened the cab and painted "safety green vests" on the two crew members... cannot really see that in the photo, but, one can in real life. Don't hear that name much these days. Are they still in business? I used to love building their military/armor stuff.
Is that what it says? I could not read those letters. Have we been wrong all these years? Or did the Reading use a different classification system?
Reading used a unique ID system... if you look at NS Reading Heritage Unit... it has the Reading ID and the NS SD70ACe ID... although, I do not know how NS came up with a Reading ID for the unit as Reading didn't have any SD70ACe. JMS
After seeing the quality of the detail on a Kadee covered hopper I managed to find this New York Central box car by Kadee on Amazon. Looking at my freight equipment, I noticed that I didn't have a single freight car from a railroad on the east coast. This is the most I have ever spent on any freight car since I have been in the hobby, $34 with free shipping. I will have to get a few more from eastern railroads. The only problem with it is that it is way too clean. The next time I have my air brush cranked up, the problem will be solved.
