I just heard a rumor that part of the Conrail Shared Assets division just had a head on collision in New Jersey. Two SD40's and a GP38 were supposedly involved. Anyone have any more information on this event? I believe it happened yesturday or today.
(THIS IS NOT MY INFO, BUT INFO FOUND ON ANOTHER FORUM.) The northbound train was YPPR-8 led by GP38 PRR 2939 and CSXT SD40-2 4417. The southbound train was YPPR-11 led by PRR SD45-2 1702 (nee-EL), CSXT GP40 4432, CSXT SD60I 8728 and CSXT 8691 (SD50 or SD60, conventional cab, CR paint). The impact was heavy enough to do serious damage to each of the units, though most are repairable. The ones that obviously aren't are the 4417 and 4432, both with seriously bent frames. The 1702 took a hard shot, but appears to have weathered the storm. All of the units are former-Conrail, and all are in blue paint. The only unit derailed is the 2939, its cab riding up into the gondola it was coupled to and its unnattached trucks on the ties. All of the units have draft gear damage to both ends. The cars will be pulled off the units tonight.
Yup, there going fast. I'm glad the SD45-2 wasn't too damaged. Maybe the frame damage isn't bad enough to scap the two! wishful thinking I guess.
At least the SD45-2 isn't that badly damaged and no Chessie units were invovled. ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!!
