I heard a rumor that BNSF is taking delivery of some SD 70 ACes sometime in February '06. Destined for the Powder River Basin.
OOh! New power from EMD!! What's the chances that it'll sport a new paint scheme? One that celebrates even less of the BNSF's proud heritage? Anywho, Keep us posted--pics, man, we need pics!
This should keep the fans happy. anticipating.... Paint colors? As much as I disliked it, over what it replaced, I'd take Cascade green! Better yet, Northern Pacific classic "Canoe" freight scheme! Boxcab E50
HemiAdda2d, I would love the Loewy colors too, but for me it wouldn't be quite right on freight units.
My proposed BNSF Heritage schemes: CB&Q Chinese Red, GN Big Sky Blue, NP Canoe, and Frisco Red and White, and maybe throw in either the ATSF black with zebra stripes from the 1950s or the early "bookend" blue and yellow pinstripe scheme from the 60s.
BNSF previously agreed to acquire a total of 1,315 locomotives, in three separate agreements, by 2009. As of December 31, 2004, all 500 locomotives under the first agreement had been delivered, bringing the outstanding total commitments to 815. In addition, through December 31, 2004, 115 locomotives were delivered under these remaining agreements. During the first nine months of 2005, BNSF took delivery of an additional 218 locomotives. *BNSF 10-Q 3rd Quarter Report BNSF capital budget for next year, including locomotives, is usually finalized when the Board of Directors meets in December, so we probably won't know for sure until after the meeting. After the agreements are fulfilled, maybe in the future, the EMD SD70ACe’s on the rails. Would look great in the new BNSF colour scheme!
Yes, I painted them. I know, it would never have happened, but one can only dream. That would have leaned in one direction way to much as far as the paint job goes and they were trying to be diplomatic about it and come up with something pretty much new that encompassed all. Which was a good idea but you still can't beat a warbonnet in my book no matter what the color is. Well, I suppose pink would be going to far!
Gah, it's a little bright. Anyway, If the locos are set to deliver early next year, then doesn't that mean that BNSF already made the order and paid some sort of money? This shouldn't be an issue for a meeting in december. In fact I find it hard to believe that we wouldn't have heard about this sooner.
Why would BNSF be secretive about it? Maybe they're rolling a few new paint schemes out? Maybe something to honor the fallen flags that BNSF is made from? Someting to mirror what UP has done, except for the garnishing of our modeling dollars...
