Below is my first fully scratchbuilt structure (N scale). This is a grain elevator that will take place in my future town of Messina. This structure has been built following an article in November 1986 MR. Hope you like it. Jean-Louis Simonet Visit traiN'ternet : http://www.trainternet.org/

JLS, that looks superb! Wish I had space for something that size I await pictures of it 'in situ' on a layout ------------------ Alan Curtis. Moderator. Member #12 The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.alancurtismodels.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery

Wish I had space for something that size I await pictures of it 'in situ' on a layout

This elevator is not so large : only 28x15 cm (11x6 inches). AS for viewing it "in situ", you'll have to wait for some time as I'm going to redo the part of the layout where it's supposed to go. This may take a while... Jean-Louis
Excellent work. Thanks for sharing. I too like scratchbuilding and I am very impressed with your workmanship. ------------------ Robin member #35 Maberly and Tayside
Now that is NICE, Jean-Louis. Excellent work. How about a little run-down on the plans/drawings used and materials used to create the structure. Come February, I'm restarting work on my own scratchbuilt feedmill. For a looksee - http://www.pnc.com.au/~audiosat/models/projects/feedmill.htm Gary. ------------------ Gary A. Most excellent!! Hope my scratch builts turn out half as nice (if I ever get to the point of building structures!!). Happy Modeling!! John ------------------ The Santa Fe and Southwestern, Chief of the Southwest!!
Yep - Andy or one of the MR staff will definitely have to make a trip to France this Spring, especially since the MR&T layout has the same structure in HO!

Great grain terminal Jean, I actually need something very similar for my layout. As for GATS grain terminal it looks even more impressive when you see it in person. ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-Moderator & Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
That grain elevator is a master piece. It goes along with Robins scratch built Steel mill and oil refinery Dick
That looks great Gary! Now I am even more envious of the space I am scratchbuilding a cement plant, so I will have to see how good it looks against those fine examples of modelling, before I post any pictures ------------------ Alan Curtis. JLS my friend, God certainly blessed you with those fine modelling skills you have!!! Outstanding work. And I agree with Greg, Andy S and MR should do a feature on your layout. It would be a crime if they didn't.

quote:
Originally posted by Gats: Now that is NICE, Jean-Louis. Excellent work. How about a little run-down on the plans/drawings used and materials used to create the structure.

Gats, For the plans, refer to the November 1986 MR. This is an article about an HO model for the MR&T that I (freely) copied in N scale, making it smaller, for my needs. As for the materials : All the buildings (main building, loading bays, and the building atop the siloes) were made from sheet styrene. The siloes were made using 32mm (outside) PVC drain pipe (for plumbing). The dust tanks were made with 15mm (outside) PVC electrical pipes, completed (top & bottom) with leftover styrene pieces and turned in a drill to shape them (using a file). The dust tank supports were made from brass shapes cut to size and soldered together (an "interesting" work...). The structures was completed using Railhead windows and doors that I had for a long time (not available anymore, but you can find the equivalent in other brands), Gold Medal Model safety laders and industrial stairs and Alkem Scale Models catwalks and industrial stair tower (pre-production sample, now available). And the pipings were made of brass and styrene pipes/rods shaped as required. Hope that helps. Jean-Louis Visit traiN'ternet: http://www.trainternet.org/
