This is my first scratchbuilt project in G-Scale. There is still a bit to do on it, but I wanted to share this project with you. I used Midwest plywood found at a craft store, and basswood to build this two story saloon. I have maybe $30 into it, quite a bit cheaper than buying a kit or pre-made building. Sure, it doesn't have the siding or shingles, but it makes a good presentation, I think. Don't be afraid to tackle something like this yourself, it isn't that hard. Just put some thought into it before you start, and plan your moves ahead of time. I have about two full evenings into this. Really, it isn't that hard (but I'm used to working in N and Z scales).

Thanks for sharing, that's a nice piece there. Aside from the cost factor, it's always a bit more satisfying when you built it yourself! ;) What additional details are you planning on adding?

Thanks! I plan on detailing the front "apartments" on the second floor somewhat, to make them look inhabited through the windows, and possibly lighting it. Right now the layout isn't any more than an oval of track on two ping pong tables, so I haven't layed out any plans for wiring. I haven't decided what to do with the downstairs yet, if anything. There will be a floor in the bottom, but what will go in there is still up in the air.

Other than that, just finishing the painting of the trim, and putting in opening doors front and rear, that's about it. Any suggestions?

It ain't a saloon without a bar, dancing girls and a drunk or three!

See the bikes parked outside? All the drunks are inside (watching the dancing girls). :D
