It is time to have trafostation No 3.
The inspiration type - covered by plaster with the house style roof. Some real photos:

    165256.jpg 455096.jpg images.jpg

And my model - during the work - without vents and doors:

    IMG_2716.JPG

    With details:

    IMG_2726.JPG

    IMG_2727.JPG

The base is styrodur. To make plaster I mixed white glue with acrylic paint for the colour and dust for the texture. Roof - KIBRI plates. Vents - spare parts from KIBRI houses. Small (white) electrical insulators - new concept: CA gel glue on which the white acrylic paint is applied using teethstick.

    Catenary tower 2 - Copy.jpg Pawel,
Here is the one with the house roof and used the tiles for shingles Looks ok but wish I could do stuff smaller but the printing specs have to be a certain size and no smaller or the support wire would be to thin and wouldn't have any support and bend over and the walls also have to be certain size.

    Walt,
Once again - very nice job again. Once again I would add smaller inspection doors on one or two walls. I like your progress in insulators arrangements and hope that they are not to fragile for printing and especially for transportation. I also like small architectural detail. It makes the tower more interesting and of course it was used in some prototypical designs.

I placed a 7foot 2in door x 34inch wide almost standard size. what size do you use? Here is a sub station electrical in US.

I designed a few extra insulators in that model. This was for Z scale to! Well it seem not to many people interested in these projects or they just don't like adding comments. what a shame! I will still be here for you next project I think it interesting and fun! keep the stress away from todays world. I'm also working on a EMD SW1500 shell trying to get it running!

I did not mean regular door for people but some smaller inspection doors like on photos below:

Your electrical substation is very nice item to be used on more modern layouts. This type of installation can be found next to electrified railways in Poland nowadays.

So your saying more like a electrical access panel that give you access to breaker and switches to control power and not access to the inside of the building. These are smaller and at eye level maybe 2foot by two foot in size or smaller. You sure have a lot of photo's of these towers. I notice in the one the telephone pole as we call them, to support electric wires to houses those are also interesting style that would make another nice project. Not like our large tower for high power cables in the link below or the wood poles with cross pieces to hold wire cables.

    Walt,
I definitely had "electrical access panel" in mind using the term "inspection doors".
As far as telephone poles are concerned I already have some Shapeways poles designed by k_malkowski: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/zscaletracks.
In Poland we have a producer of very fine and exact models of them in HO. Some examples below:
    http://modelarstwo-kluba.pl/h0/slupy-elektryczne-drewniane-nn-stara-oferta-h0/
    http://modelarstwo-kluba.pl/h0/slupy-elekrtyczne-zelbetowe-nn-stara-oferta-h0/
    http://modelarstwo-kluba.pl/h0/slupy-telegraficzne-h0/slupy-telegraficzne-drewniane-ho/

As you can see both wooden poles were used (in the past) as well as concrete ones (currently). Those concrete ones were also produced in small series in Z as photoetched or carton laser cut models. You have some examples from my layout:

Trafostation tower No 4 (and the last one)

This time it will be the model with bricks walls and house like roof. Real axamples are:

    indeks.jpg 51748158.jpg trafo4.jpg

    My model looks as follows:

    IMG_2762.JPG

    IMG_2758.JPG

    IMG_2760.JPG

    IMG_2763.JPG

    IMG_2764.JPG

This one shows some learning curve but it was the most time consuming one.
First of all I am happy with the look of the walls. To get the color firstly I painted the walls with mixture of four acrylic paints: dark brown, light brown, dark red and orange. The second step was to get some white paint into the spaces beetween bricks: I painted the wall white acrylic paint and immedietly wiped it of with soft material. The third layer was black wash also mostly wiped off. The final layer was rust wash. After painting the wash I put the paper tissue on it- so only thin layer of the wash remaid and dried.
Also the joints of the walls are better, Small detail add realism as well.

this one shows more detail! I like the aged brick work. I need to get some for doing some scratch built buildings. That would really look great for some old warehouse buildings. The telephone pole I saw was in one of the catenary towers behind it it wasn't a pole type . I did a model but couldn't see the rear side top so I guess at it. so what style is this one I thought it was cool to!!! I tried one insulator on a pin. I wrapped the wire as many as I could then used a craft knife and pushed it between the last wrap and folded it over so now a line can be attached to it then used one of my track cutters to cut the wire 6 wraps. then wire is thin but hard enough to keep it's shape.

    Walt,
    Models looks great !
I posted an information on Polish Z-scale forum about your trafostations. You can find it here:
    http://www.zetka.pdg.pl/showthread.php?tid=45&pid=5280#pid5280.

Electric poles look also interesting. This type based on triangle is rather rare in reality. Those poles are made out of concrete in different sizes and used in several different settings.

I haven't painted any of them yet! The bricks are so small since I did them to real scale I was going to paint the building dark gray then high light the brick reddish Brown hoping the gay will show as mortor between the bricks. but I have a funny feeling it isn't going to work! the first print with the insulator couple got broke so they had to do a re-print and the re-print came out great!
