I am getting more and more disappointed with sound from my Scale Trains Locos. I am convinced that I will need the Lok Sound Programmer to change the sound files. 1st question, are other decoder manufacturer's sound files transferrable to the Lok Sound? I am using the Power Pro DCC system and not having great success changing any CVs. It was much better, sorry to say with my old Powercab. Let's start with these questions and do from there.
1 - no, you cannot directly load sounds from a different manufacturer. If you have sound clips which you can legitimately use, you can build custom sound projects. This is not for the faint of heart, but there is a manual which explains a lot of the techniques used and using the LokProgrammer software in the LokSound groups.io files section. 2 - already answered in other thread about Power Pro. There is a known problem in the firmware of these systems. You can use DecoderPro (JMRI) to get around it (and that is always a good idea with any decoder with indexed CVs).
Is there anyone here or off the board that is dependable that can adjust or otherwise improve the sound quality in the Scale Trains LokSound decoders? Obviously at a cost. I have 4 that are quite disappointing. They run great but leave a lot to be desired on sound quality. I have other brands that sound great but don't pull nearly as well. If I didn't like sound so much I'd be in train bliss!
Some have replaced the stock speaker with the iPhone speaker and noted a substantial improvement in sound quality.
