Has anyone attempted to take apart a Scale Trains N scale turbine tender. Mine is way too light and any minor track issue at our club causes it to derail in places where other equipment rolls no problem. I need to add some serious weight and wondering if these things come apart easily? What’s inside? I heard there is a decoder to operate a reverse light? I can go worst a reverse light I just need to add weight. Thinking of drilling a hole in the under belly and filling with 00 buckshot pellets. Any ideas would be appreciated.
For goodness sakes, don't shoot it! It just needs a little TLC, that's all! It'll be okay, I promise! But I know how you feel, I get that way sometimes too. Seriously, a few more useful thoughts: If you don't know what's inside, don't fill it with anything conductive (like lead, tungsten, etc.) It may short out something electrical inside. Smaller diameter spheres will fill more completely into irregular spaces. 00 buck size is probably too big. Bird shot (size) would be better. I would also ensure the tender's wheels are running free, true and in gauge, and the trucks are free to pivot sufficiently. Make sure the coupler swings freely (with light spring resistance, but no catches, both pushing and pulling).
Not the best picture in the world but you can probably copy it and blow it up enough to see what you need.
