I am jumping the gun a bit here, since my track is not even down yet, but I am looking for the best source of information on Santa Fe paint schemes, rolling stock, and motive power from the 1940's through 1960. Any help would be great!! Happy Modeling!!

Have you tried Barnes & Nobles? I've found many great books about the Santa Fe and the other railways I'm into there. I model the present so I don't have any that would help you, but I know I've seen some books on the Santa Fe's past there.

At least for locomotives, Dr. Cinthia Priest's The Santa Fe Diesel series is tough to beat. Volume 1 covers Santa Fe's diesel purchases from their first diesel up to about 1960. Volume 2 covers everything bought between 1960 and 1995's BNSF merger. Great books, with lots of pictures that come in handy for modeling; just about every paintscheme worn by various models is shown. Another book, by the same author, is the Santa Fe Waycar, and it covers every caboose class owned by Santa Fe, with about the same level of detail as the diesel books.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out!! I am all about early steam, but since my 4-year-old decided to go N scale with this layout, I decided why not "modernize" a bit. Besides, I had some old Santa Fe stuff from a layout I built many years ago. Don't know too much about it though, this will give me a start. Thanks again!! Happy Modeling!!
