Hi Folks: Attached is my new track plan for the San Luis and Rio Grande. This is a very much freelanced railroad based on the SLRG in Southeast Colorado. I'd really appreciate it if you folks could look it over and let me know what you think, and where it can be improved. Its very much designed as an operations railroad, but does include provisions for loop running for when I feel like railfanning Thanks TIM
ya, Im looking forward to it -- its wildly proto-lanced but has some potential for pretty scenery too -- im doing it in the fall of the year, so some of the upper portions might have a dusting of snow, while the aspens will be in yellow lower down TIM
Sounds 'Grande! The Pass is timeless--you could run SLRG SD90s, D&RGW GP40s and 2-8-8-2s on the same layout with almost no changes.
In addition to that, given the back story for the layout -- almost anything will be fair game -- there will be plenty of BNSF units, a number of SLRG and a few UP here and there as well as amtrak, Local commuter, and The historic stuff for the Rio Grande Scenic
Ya, A couple people have pointed that out, I'll be working on that -- the stacked yards arent much of a problem as there will only be one operator -- ME TIM
I don't see the stacked yards as much of a problem for a solo operator, but there seems to be a lot of track in places there shouldn't be, such as at Fir. Unless those staging areas are hidden tracks. There's a balloon track, passing track and little else there, even in the Grande's heyday. It seems you are designing it as a switching layout, as those opportunities abound. It just seems congested. *plink, plink*
