Well after long toughts I decided to build a switching layout in S scale.

I was in O gauge for a long time and I always liked the scale. For reasons of space I think S scale will be also nice.

I ordered a SW-1 locomotive in CNW paint scheme from Showcase lines, and as I like slow running the locomotive will be adapted with a ""low speed gear"

Will keep you posted on the progress I make and on the material available in that scale and the quality.

I must say that the S scale people are very friendly people. I sent one email to someone for more info about S scale and got replies from 15 different people!!!!

S is a good scale I think Paul. There seems to be more available all the time. I specifically cite some Frisco boxcars I saw in a train store a year or so ago. Of course, I know you'll be looking for those for your layout! [IMG]

Welcome to S scale Paul. You are right, Showcase Lines has quality trains. I have several of their cars and hope to get one of the WP SW1's soon. Another source of S scale is from American Models, B.T.S., both who have a wide variaty of cars to choose from.

Greg, what track do you use in S scale?? Is Shinohara the best (code 100) to use???

    Paul,
I use Shinohara since that was available to me. I understand the Tomalco flex is good, although I haven't tried it. As to switches the Shinohara are ok, I understand the #8's have a gauge problem. My son and I have tried the #6's and they seem fine. I have toyed with the idea of buying some switch kits from B.T.S. and fabricating them on the work bench and placing them on the layout. I also have done a little hand laying of track, robbing it from some HO Atlas NS sectional. I spent more time cutting ties, if I do more I will buy precut ties from B.T.S. also.
