Are the bunk house at Sublette and depot at Cumbres, original structures? Or replicas?

    Cumbres

The 1882 Section House at Cumbres (above) is the original and has been restored. Will need to see what I can find on Sublette...

    Sublette

I was able to confirm that all three structures at Sublette are the original and have been maintained by the C&TS since 1970; the D&RGW left them 1967...

I had noticed the concrete foundations. Which is why I was wondering.

Interesting there is a train order signal in front of a section house. Was that something added by C&TS? Or did that building double in real RR life as a depot/train order office?

I have looked at some historical photos and the signal was in front of the depot that was once here (Built 1882 / Removed 1954) and then later moved to the section house

So did the section house become a real D&RGW train order office? Or was the signal moved just for public effect?

The D&RGW still operated here until 1967 so I assume the signal was moved to the Section House for operational usage but that is just my speculation based on dates...

Hmmmm. I'd sure like to find a Cumbres train order. If that was an open office after the move, I have never seen any fellow collector list one for that time frame. Interesting...

    1993: Colorado Railroad Museum

Still a time when we were still using film so we didn't take too many photos but this was Lisa's first trip of many to the museum in Golden that she will take with me going forward. She was taken to Steam Engines and Passenger Trains which more me is great as that means we will be planning many a tourist railroad rides through the years now...

You can tell from the photo that I have gotten a a bit bigger now that I have settled down into married life and working lots of Day, Night, and Weekend work being an IT Administrator.

    1997: FORT STEVENS STATE PARK

Let us now skip forward several years to the next RR related location. This would be the first of the WWI French Merci Boxcars we will locate. On this trip we will stop at Fort Stevens State Park in Hammond Oregon on August 5th, 1997. When France sent these cars to the Unite States as Gratitude for our efforts World War I there were 49 cars delivered (1 for each of the 48 states and 1 for DC) but not all have survived.

I used to have a book mark for a page that listed all the Merci car information. Do you have that link?

Yes I do, it's a great reference on where the surviving cars are at today along with some of the contents. The one above I photographed in Oregon has since moved and is not as easy to photograph now

This is a pet peeve I have. Too many artifacts, although thankfully preserved, are fenced. landscaped or otherwise housed, so viewing let alone taking an even semi-decent photo, is not possible. Seems to me their value is then greatly diminished. There seems to be a great lack of forethought in creating a display which cannot even be seen!

    1998: Utah State Railroad Museum

On June 2, 1998 we stopped by this nice little museum in Ogden, UT that had a small collection of equipment outside staked tightly under a smaller shelter. I remember there was also some nice display inside Union Station where this was at but didn't take any photos inside.

Darren, you and Lisa sure got around to some great railfan sites. Your Merci message made me look up where the NY State one was, and it is not far from my hometown, and I remember it being pulled by a tractor or horses in parades not long after WWII. This is a great hobby.
