Well I'm finally riding the train across country. It's dark right now and I can't see much, but I believe we are in Barstow CA. passing by the yard So far things aren't going so well with my room. Its a little cramped and my table will not come out. they sad there is someone on the train that can fix it, but I don't know about that because it is pretty jammed up. This is my first time on an overnight train and I'm not sure I will be able to sleep with the way this thing is bouncing around.
Well we made it through the night, but without much sleep. I just started to fall into a deep sleep around 3AM when the neighbor decided to make phone calls at 3:30. The guy was so loud that he must have woke everybody on the train up. Finished breakfast in Gallup NM and they decided to move us to a different room because they couldn't fix the table. I like it better. We had to pullover just now and wait for a high priority freight train. I think today will be a better day.
Keep us posted. This is so cool. Northeastern New Mexico is my favorite part. Gorietta Pass to Raton Pass. Still a few semaphores so watch for them.
We Are in Albuquerque right now and they just turned on the WiFi. This was a long service stop and they even washed my window. I got to take some photos from the outside, but I can't send them for some reason. I'm enjoying myself now that I know how this works. Next time I will be better prepared.
Be sure to keep notes and write these up for us. At some point, my lady & I will be doing a Chicago to West Coast round trip. Thanks.
I documented our Lake Shore Limited / California Zephyr (Buffalo to San Francisco) in this thread http://www.trainboard.com/highball/...ica-buffalo-to-san-francisco-by-amtrak.77928/ The photos for that thread can be found in this album http://www.trainboard.com/highball/...erica-by-train-buffalo-to-san-francisco.1463/ (the TB upgrade last year broke the photo links). In the album, you have to go from the back to the front, and then the photos are in the order as posted in the thread Johnny -- looking forward to your photos and descriptions
