So' I'm just sitting here goin' thru my favorites and come across a thred about Reading 2100 is heading here toward Tacoma, WA. which is about 8-10 miles from my house!! When did this come about, and why is it coming here?!
Kurt- There is a group, cannot think of their name. That has plans to run excursions on the old Milw, south from Tacoma. (Tacoma Eastern RR.) At least up and down Tacoma Hill. From what little I hear, this is the engine they want to use. While it should certainly have the pulling power, I find it hard to believe this monster sized steamer would be useable on that track. Guess we'll find out! Boxcab E50
It's in Tacoma now!! It's at the Tacoma Rail yard, but to far in to get a close-up. I drove down there this afternoon and saw it along with 5 or 6 silver w/blue band passenger cars.
Kurt- I don't recall hearing this engine has operated recently. Any way to learn it's condition? Needing any work/restoration? Boxcab E50
Has the 2100 been out in this cooler, damper weather? If so, that should have provided some great photos of a large steam plume. Boxcab E50
I haven't been down in that neck o' the woods for awhile now. I hope it wasn't short lived. I really wan't to see that Milwaukee E-unit running around too!:teeth:
So do I! But, now I realize, it's been a while since the last update on restoration of the E. So am wondering.... Boxcab E50
There's a small story that's becoming a BIG problem lately! The number boards off the headlight and the diamond "Reading" emblem were stolen of her sometime in the last week!! I saw the story on Railroadforums.com. It's a sad day when one 'whackjob" has to ruin it for all the rest.
OBTW the MILW E-9 is done but is stored at CEECO for the winter:shade: I understand that 2100 was going to be put back in CEECO for the winter also, but never was, I bet they wish it had now:sad:
2100 photo A YEP! the top is the bridge of 176 St. E and the bottom is the shadow of the bridge. The locomotive is about where the grade goes from 2.50% to 3.125% befor going back to a 1%
