C&O station at Vanceburg, KY in September 1997. It was renovated in 2000. SOU station at Danville, KY in March 1990. It was a busy place then, with Rathole crewmen working the yard and their trains. I'm not sure what happened, but the station is now closed.
Thanks for the compliments on my '59 Chevy, you guys. It was the source of envy for many of my friends back then. Unfortunately, rust overtook the body by the mid-seventies and I sold it to a guy who was restoring another one just like it except it was assembled in California and spent its life in Arizona so no rust. The white paint was still there on the bottom of the car. He wanted mine because all of the stainless steel trim was still perfect and some of it on his was bent and dented. I wish I still had that car. Doug
Seen at right in your picture, this was BA Tower as found in April 1987, also known as BN (Bloomington-Normal) Target Box, removed around 1995. I hung around for a while, but never saw a train there.
Weekend Railfanning along Crescent Beach in BC over the weekend, a southbound, empty, unit coal train on it's way back to the US led by GE ET44C4 #4211 - The Empire Builder color scheme lives on!
A photo from 1966, on the opposite side of the road bridge, when GM&O passenger trains were still in operation.
Geep 9E's 3338 and 3877 back down to there train, after being picked up by a west train at Mojave CA. Both were alive.
Westbound GP-40-2 6497 leads at Sand Patch, PA in October 1993. SA Tower can be seen at right in the distance. It's gone today.
From April 1984 at Tuscaloosa, AL are IC GP-10 8271 (former FEC GP-9), GP-35 2524 (former GMO 626) and GP-10 8310 (former UP GP-9B). Love that upended tank car likely serving as a fuel tank. Writing on its side reads United States Army.
Ha! It's been a long time since I shot this, but I think it was indeed an overcast and very humid day. GP-30s were in charge! The line to the right is the former GM&O branch to Montgomery on which a large paper mill is located. It's owned by Watco's Autauga Northern today.
