I have a book titled "Self-propelled cars of the CNR" and there are several photos of 15832 in service inside, among the treasure trove of information of all the self-propelled vehicles used on CN.

It joined CN's roster in 1930 and was retired 30 years later in 1960. Those doodlebugs were pretty durable.

At Exporail is 15824, which was built in 1926:

Nice view of the guts of the bug.

This was back in 2019, pre-COVID, during the CN 100th anniversary celebrations.

In late 2009, a coal train derailed outside of Cleburn, Texas. Some of the wreckage as seen from Amtrak's Eagle.

From 04/11/1987 at Clinton, IL on the ICG. The 2038 is a Paducah-built "SD-20", built from former B&O SD-35 7438. The 2016 is also a Paducah-built SD-20, former SOU SD-24 6318. At the time, three ICG lines crossed at Clinton, all former IC. Only one through line remains today. Of the remaining two, one is now a stub end branch and the other is gone.

A quick up-and-back paparazzi-style outing to photograph the ex-CPR station in St-Faustin/Lac Carré, in the Laurentians, about 60 miles north of home.

    Back:

Oblique view of front, looking south (toward St-Jérôme and Montreal):

Oblique view of front, looking north (toward St-Jovite and Mont-Laurier):
    IMGP4928.JPG

It's somewhat smaller than others I've snapped on the old P'tit Train Du Nord line, but is still a typical CPR station for a small community. But it thankfully had restrooms...:coffee:

And Lac Carré? AKA Square Lake. The Canada geese seem to think it's hip to be square ;):
    IMGP4941.JPG
They're also smart enough to stay inside the perimeter!

Weather was quite overcast up north, but at least it wasn't raining! :)

    :eek:o_O:whistle::confused:

Answering the boss when called to his office:

"The plans said 14 feet 8 inches, so I did 14 feet 8 inches! It's not my fault there's a railroad track in the way..."

Had a trip to Iowa for family reunions, and caught two (2!) UP trains. And this one was led by NS! At Beaver, Iowa just west of Boone, Screenshot 2024-07-10 06.06.15.png

March 1975, Union Station Chicago. BN 9903 is former CB&Q 9940A, built 1950. It was eventually sold to the IC, then passed into CN's roster as #102 and was later donated to the Monticello Railway Museum in Illinois where it resides in CN colors.

It was used for a while for CN's executive trains, and even wore CN's beautiful 1950s passenger scheme  for some time before being repainted in current CN freight colors (heathens!!).

On May 1, 1971, the day that AMTRAK took over passenger rail in most of the US, the last run of the Norfolk & Western Pocahontas between Cincinnati and Norfolk is shown here in Roanoke, Virginia. They borrowed the recently restored Nickle Plate Road 759, to which they mounted the whistle off the J class 611 and re-lettered for Norfolk & Western, to pull the last leg of the run.

Now there's a classy way to make an exit. I didn't know that the Pocahontas lasted until Amtrak.

Asheville Yard, 06/14/2013 with the Erie heritage unit lending muscle. With the loss of coal to the local power plant and the closure of the nearby paper mill, things are sadly quiet in Asheville today. Even the roundhouse has since been razed.

One can tell from the condition of the rail heads on the foreground tracks that things have been too quiet.:(
