I promised that I would not post many more 'over the fince' but I just love the contrast of nature and technology.

The sunset silhouette photos are always outstanding. These are no exception. The first one is interesting just by the variety of loads.

Same here. Reminded me of the old NP F units and Geeps from my youth.

This morning I was reading Kalmbach's Trains of the 1960s (c. 2014) and learned something I would have never guessed, that the SP was the largest owner of PA/PB units at 66 (!), including 2 from the Cotton Belt. In second place was the Santa Fe with 44, which I found equally surprising. Largest operator in the east appears to have been the New Haven with 27. (Photograph by Dan Pope, 1954)

That's interesting. I had never given the ownership numbers a thought.

The LV was a good customer and bought 14, all cabs. LV painted the roofs black shortly after delivery so as to disguise that hallowed Alco soot. After the Valley made its exit from the passenger business in early '61, some briefly saw freight and most left the roster for trade in and scrap in '63 and '64.

Believe I have seen a video on YT that showed an EL RR PA hauling freight. Wish I could find it or similar footage again.
