Yup. Safety first. Seeing the Big Boy is a (really big) bonus.

I'd bet that many an engineer out on the rails would love to drive that big beast.:)

Measured from Denver via Pueblo, east Minturn is 301 miles away from the Mile-High City. A small fir has sprouted along the main track here, while the D&RGW standard-design milepost marker stands nearby, no longer providing its information to passing train crews. The standard design for the milepost can be found here: https://www.drgw.net/gallery/v/DRGWStandardPlans/drgw_standardplans_p130.png.html

Here is another one six miles up the pass. Kind of hiding in the firs.

I like the font difference. 295 is clearly older.

That little tree at 301 won't be disturbed anytime soon. Nothing has polished those rails in a long time.

When it grows a little more, hang some solar-powered Christmas lights and decorations on it. Ho Ho Ho. :)

The JRF (Japan Rail Freight) DE10 switching the tank cars that carry jet fuel here to Yokota Air Base, Japan.

A guy I work with snapped this for me. I haven’t been able to sneak out of work to see the loco work myself, but I do get to see the tank cars sitting here pretty often.

Kato makes a DE10 and a runner pack of the tank cars-so I had to get them. Great runners, but that goes without saying. [IMG]

Tropical Storm Fred hit western NC hard earlier this week. I know this area pretty well. Adjacent to the Pigeon River, this is the Evergreen Paper Mill in Canton, served by the Blue Ridge Southern. It appears that they moved cars to higher ground as seen in the center of the photo. The mill's plant switcher was moved to a hillside and remained safe. [not my photo]

Interesting wheel arrangement... looks like B-C or B-AIA (like the FL9).

I didn't even notice that. Or, like some of the C-Liners (of which Atlas/Rivarossi made an N scale model)!

Like this one (True-Line Trains model - runs like a charm :)):

But i read up a little on the DE10 and they were built by Japan National Railways. Some were B-C, with 5 powered axles out of 5. I've seen some photos of them that were B-B. They were also quite light, in the 65-70 ton range.

IAIS QJ 2-10-2 #6988 ran excursions Saturday for the Oxford Fire Department from Oxford to about Coralville, IA and back.

The event was a sell out and the proceeds will benefit the department for new equipment in the near future.

The engine will be in Wilton, IA on Sunday to benefit the Fire Department.

On Labor Day weekend it will be in Des Moines to benefit Operation Lifesaver and the Science Center of Iowa.

Great shot Buddy! I like how the IAIS red and yellow Z stripe looks on the smoke deflectors. (y)(y)(y)
