Do they have any covered storage? Or all outside in the weather?

Skookum lives! The rare 2-4-4-2 logging locomotive restored to operation at the Oregon Coast Scenic RR pulled trains this week for the first time in over 60 years. Rescued from a derailment and lying on its side, it was a long process. The loco will eventually travel (by truck) to California where owner Chris Baldo will operate it on the Niles Canyon road. These photos were taken by Martin Hansen, who had a great deal to do with the restoration.

Only one running. The RSD15 in the google link is right now down having its traction motors rebuilt and there is a ground fault somewhere in the system causing the generator to shut down under load. Don't know when they will get it back in service. They picked up another Alco, a C424, that needs its air compressor rebuilt. They are leasing a GP40-3 from Horizon, HZRX #3134, to pull their trains right now.

And then there is the old SP Mikado that is being rebuilt. On the google link you can scan over to the left and find it in "Kit" form scattered all over the place. I found most parts except for the trailing truck.

Hmm, sorta like a 60-70 year old HO Varney, Bowser, or Penn-Line kit, only a sukoshi, sukoshi bigger. LOL

I've never seen anything like it! Yes, just an absolutely beautiful vest pocket articulated and to see it running in the photos is amazing.

Pilot truck, or is it the trailing truck? Kinda looks like the latter.

Man, it is SO neat to see those old machines looking like they did when they were new. We usually only see them after years of service and they are filthy.

Hard to follow up an act like that....

CHSX 8333, originally built as Illinois Central GP7 8978, redesignated a GP8, rest in the snow at a Minot, ND elevator during blue hour.

It's fantastic that some of those old machines are still operating. Of course, it could be the old, "I've had this hatchet for 60 years..." thing, too.

    :D
