Welp, I put both my Nobeoka Station and the Wacoal Kojimachi on the 'Winter Layout Party' thread as goals so guess I have to get back to working on them now, eh?

Oddly enough I have had all the goodies to finish the station for a while, there's just a cubic butt-ton of details to it to do. The other is barely even started and I still need to get stuff for it.

Got until February 26th though, so I'll procrastinate a little longer :ROFLMAO::LOL: At least until after Christmas is out of the way and the pace slows back down.

all this talk about things that I want to get done lately, I had to take care of something first before I could start ANY of it. Something I have needed to do since this summer. Tonight, I had to...

CLEAN!! There was so much clutter all over my work table, piles of randomness everywhere, tools scattered - every time I looked at it I lost interest a little more. I wasn't going to get much done the way things were, and I have much I want to get done, so tonight I busted out the Hefty and got to it.

A sound soul dwells within a sound mind and a sound body. And a clean(er) workstation :D Was really bugging me!

Organized my storage, too. I still have alllll this to get to, and this isn't even all of it! Oye vey!

An hour of prep work tonight feels like a great start. Will have a bunch of days after Christmas through about the 3rd weeks of January and I want to spend a lot of them right here.

The journey of 1,000 miles starts with... a clean workspace. (Or something like that!)

That is time well spent. I am in the process of cleaning and organizing my workspace as well. It will make the prospect of tackling layout projects a little more appealing.

got this keychain off Etsy in the mail today. The store (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TokyoPosters) has all kinds of them fashioned after JR station signs, almost bought a bunch of them but settled on just this one since the main drag of my layout is going to be fashioned after Akiba. No idea what I'm going to use it for yet. Maybe nothing at all, it's just fun :)

While I did change the design to fit a different tool, I can't claim invention on this - saw it in a YT video that I can no longer find, but the guy used a soldering iron and did it differently (translation: easier)

I think I am going to try to find the flat/butt end Xacto blades because the angle on these feel like they would be obnoxious, but I now have a plexiglass hot knife for cutting all those windows for my station!

I only drew blood in two places, thank you very much lol

Only work 3 days this week and they're all afternoon/closing shifts, so sat down and gooped up the uneven spots with DAP this morning. I had originally planned to do sequenced lights on the entrance and exit of the elevated track, but I am already trying to figure out how to hide the wiring for just the LED lights on the interior, so just filled those spots in with several layers of filler.

I'll give it a couple of days so it can fully cure, then I can take a palm sander with fine grit over all this to even it out. Then the "real" fun can begin lol

Paid $1 for this broken dropped ceiling light cover that would otherwise have been fed to the dumpster, it called to me to add yet another hair-brained detail to the inside of this thing. I was not expecting it to be this much of a pain to work with, but got the pieces I needed cut finally. Am hoping it works like plexiglass and I can hit the edges with a heat gun and they clear back up.

Will have to wait and see, though - time to get ready for work!

ps - looks like my newly semi-oraginized tabletop is cluttered again already. How the heck did that 15" socket bar get on there??! I honestly don't even remember getting that out of the garage, and I certainly don't remember what for :cautious:

for anyone wondering, the pieces cut from the light cover do not clear back up like acrylic when you hit the edges with a heat gun, but it will curl right up like a dead spider. Looks like am cutting that piece again this morning.

Progress so far today... some good, some new issues created. Kind of how I roll lol

Got the structure fine sanded, used 320 on the palm sander and it only broke off three of the stanchions so I quickly ended that plan and started using a sanding block. Worked ok except for a few really stubborn places, had to break out the jeweler's file for those. Got it as good as it's getting, so went over everything with a 600 grit and I'm relatively happy. I think paint will cover a lot of what in the end will be stuff that only I'll know is there.

Figured out the best way to route the wiring and drilled the holes - btw, someone could have told me how nerve-racking that was going to be on something I've already spent probably 15-20 hours on. Remind me next time to do that in the beginning where if I dork it up I can just start over! o_OHave some 20ga scraps in there now so they don't gunk up when I paint - going to rattle can the structure itself and the holes are not at all easy to get to - the two on the second floor I just bored by turning the hobby knife, I did not have a bit long enough for the chuck to clear the structure.

The 1" wiring cleats that I already have on-hand are massive on this thing and after some calls, the smallest anyone in town has is 1". Had to hit up Bezos to send me some 1/2" ones stat. Will have to wait until those arrive to start painting the building itself.

But, I can start on painting the little stuff. Got these barcaloungers and sofas off Etsy for a couple of bucks - the actual Open Project in the real Nobeoka station has rather contemporary office-y furniture, reminds me a lot of like a community college library or someone who maxed their credit cards at Ikea to be honest, but I opted to make my station a little more bougie lol. Mine will have leather couches and chairs to wait for the next train in comfort. I have a few sets of little people sitting down that I've been saving just for this part.

Am getting a little geeked over here seeing all this finally coming together

I didn't really use the interior photos as a reference much since I am going more off the outside than the inside, but after mentioning how it looks inside, this site has some really nice photos. It's such a change from the one I (barely) remember, that whole area was kind of run down. The only reason I even knew about this was I went searching for photos of a street arcade near the station and was like "whoa! When did THIS happen??" and decided I wanted it in my city.

Such a cool building, train station or otherwise.

Pfunk, next time skip the Plastic Wood. Although strong, that stuff is a pain to sand afterwards. And it dries out in the can. I have switched to Water Putty, something I used for my regular wood working. You mix with water and once dried it's just as hard and strong at Plastic Wood. Yet, it sands like wood!

If you soak it in water afterwards for awhile, it would dissolve but painting over it with water based paint won't soften it and certainly not with any solvent based paint.

I have used Durhams a ton on household woodworking projects, has been around as long as I can remember, and yep it is good stuff. However, I have the DAP on-hand already and I don't have to go anywhere and pay for something new. In the future I'll probably pick up something else, but it works for now.

Am finding many issues with this thing as I work it. A couple of the stanchions are closer to being in the 70s than 90 degrees, being unfinished thin wood sitting out for months it has misshaped a little and the parts that used to slide in and out take a bit more convincing now... all that fun stuff you learn on your first big scratch project haha

Either way, I still think it will be fun when it's finished, even if just to me because I made it. Be a conversation either way!

OK, have been a little post-happy the last couple of days so hopefully people aren't ready to write off new posts on this thread JUST yet hahaha

Just realized I dumped out the airbrush this morning then left the house without cleaning it out. That was 5hrs ago, and I won't be home for another 7-8, so what's in there will have plenty of time to "cure"

Will warm water loosen that up enough, or do I need to pick up something? I don't think running thinner through it would be good, seems like pieces could break loose and damage the tip, but is that the way to go? Is just dried Vallejo primer, the stuff usually cleans up well with just water, just wondering if that's enough to clean it once it's dried in the inner workings?

    Big oof.
