April 27, 2007 OK, let's get this next RRAdventures topic started! If you have been following my TrainBlog here at TrainBoard, this trip began on April 24th, 2007. This was NOT a Railfan trip but a guided tour into Greek history. The first few days (Blog Entry: World Travel - Greece 2007 - Part I) was all about touring places such as Acropolis, Temple of Hephaestus, Tower of the Four Winds, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Stoa of Eumenes, Olympic Stadium Games in 1896, Panagia Hrysospiliotissa / Chapel of our Lady of the Cavern, Ancient Agora, Theatre of Dionysus, and the Temple of Zeus. These are all places within walking distance in Athens, Greece and we found the city easy to get around with extremely helpful locals at every turn. There were other options to tour the city that we didn't take part in but this first Railfan shot might bring a smile to one of the modes of travel. [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica] [/FONT]This "train" passed us on a pedestrian walkway along "Dionisiou Aeropagitou" which we took often from our hotel to various places as well as the extremely modern subway that can be accessed right near where I took this photograph. One of the unique things about this city that you will see a few shots of later is everything here is built "around" history. So, when you build a hotel or a subway you will dig into history. They make a point out of making small musesum to show what was found at those locations. Our hotel had places behind glass that showed foundations of antient ruins. The subway termanals have displays of what they found near each station. Since Lisa and I had multiple cameras going thoughout the trip it might be a bit difficualt to keep this trip report in cronalogical order so bare with me as I might jump around a bit to pull out all the Railfan shots that Lisa and I captured here and there through out the trip.
Yes, we are off to a slow start. That's because I'm working on getting the video downloaded to my PC so I can search for other RR shots and yes, I've already missed a few. So, let's slightly rewind to our arrival at the Athens Airport and this train I got as our taxi takes us to the hotel. April 26, 2007 Remember me talking about how when you enter into buildings you might find a small museum inside that shows items found during excavation? Here we are entering into the Acropolis Station and look what we find inside.
