If you look at the flat part of the car you will see it's carrying a single section of track on it. They would stack several section of track on this car to carry them to the work site. Below is the description of this car. [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica]D&RGW AX3219 is a track panel car. Originally built in 1944 as a flatcar, it was converted to it present configuration in 1967 with the addition of part of a boxcar body on the rear of the car. AX3219 was used to carry prebuilt panels of track as well as tools and was assigned to the Salt Lake CIty Utah wreck train. The track panels were used to build temporary track at wreck sites to aid in the cleanup process. AX3219 was donated in 2001 by Daniel Quiat.[/FONT]
