Darren, are they restoring or doing maintenance on these or are they simply "out in the weather"? John
Boulder County Railway Historical Society The Boulder County Railway Historical Society was formed in 1997 to assist the City of Boulder in the restoration of three pieces of narrow gauge railroad equipment displayed in Central Park. The Society's larger purpose is to preserve and educate the public about the history of railroads in Boulder County. John, based on the Self Guided tour paper I picked up the "Valmont Display Site" they are trying to restore this equipment they have received in just the past few years and are looking for Volenteers and Funds to make this into a first class museum. I hope that this exspore here on TrainBoard will help bring them more visitors and thus more Volenteers and Funds to make this happen.
Don't think so... Listed as being donated to the BCRHS by United Western Supply in Denver back in March 2000.
Man, if I lived up there I would be first on the volunteer roster. Maybe I can squeeze a little more blood from the turnip that is my bank account and get some duckets their way. Since I grew up there and first came to love railroads there, I feel it is the least I can do John

Was this one ever stored in Broomfield? I'd swear I used to see it there by the grain elevators. John
This is the information I know based on their descripton Once a common sight on freight trains, cabooses were the trains crew's home away from home. This caboose was in service until July 2001 when it was damaged in a derailment. From 1994 to July 2001, it was stationed in Longmont and used daily on local freight trains. #12300 was donated to the BCRHS by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway on July 31, 2001.
Thanks Darren. I suppose it could have been in Broomfield even if it was "based" in Longmont. Thanks for the shots!! John
Good find. That museum can't be that old. Maybe ten years at most. Looks like a worthy day trip. There are lots of little museums like that around. I found one in Atchison Kansas. there is one right track side by the passenger station in Colorado springs too. I think more and more , people realize that we need to preserve our transportation heritage. Boulder...Back in the day there was a brick yard right near there, as well as a gravel quarry. These were served by a long spur cuttoff from the south inbound BN line near the power plant. Well when they decided not to use it anymore, they just removed the switch but left the spur. One day my buddies and I discovered a track mainentance cart. So we went back later, mind you this is early twenties, and got drunk and spent the evening pushing the cart a quarter mile or more up the track and then rolling down the hill. Fun times.
