There are a number of railfan locations in Georgetown. A double track Canadian National line runs through town. It is the terminus for the north west GO commuter service. I have chosen the old iron bridge that crosses the Credit River just east of town. The view points are along a public road and from a public hiking trail along the Credit River. This bridge is only single track so is quite a bottle neck to traffic. The bridge was built in 1856. The trail leads right under the bridge and the sound of a passing train is something to be heard. Oh Canada! I went up there for a brief visit to Thunder Bay while visiting family in Minnesota. The ArrowHead region and Canada is some of the most beautiful county I've ever visited. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Hi Rail Fan. The speed limit on the bridge is about 50 kph. Normal traffic runs between 70 and 80 kph. Thanks to all about the kind comments you make about Canada. A great place to live EH! Robin
We had a bad accident there last october, Our loco and our engineers (VIA) were pulling some Amtrak superliners when we collided with a full dumptruck...horrible, by the time the crash ended, our locomotive was facing the other way. Another case of trying to beat the train. I got some pics of it, I'll see who can get to put em up on here for me. Hi Bannon, I remember the accident. It happened west of Georgetown on the way to Acton. Needless, as the side road is quiet and no need to race across before the train. There is not much traffic on this line and many people just don't look as they no longer expect trains. The main CN line goes south west out of Georgetown and that is the heavy use line. The track to Acton branches off at Georgetown and sees limited use. ------------------ Robin Maberly and Tayside
