Thanks Legoman -- another nice, well-rounded selection. :) I failed to post it where it could be found, but since it was taken in the last week, I wanted to throw in a shot of NS's Penn Central heritage unit passing through Columbia, SC on an empty rock train.

A fine selection. Would love to know more about that orange caboose.

Same here. Am noticing how deeply inset are the side windows. Is there an extra layer of sheathing on it? Or is this a post-RR use modification?

Penn Central is looking worse for wear. Needs a new paint job.

You're right! There are a growing number that need some touch up work. Given its "colors", NS wouldn't have to reach very far into its paint cabinet to find what the PC needs.

NS 8099, the SOU HU, is on the point of an executive train from Altoona to Atlanta today. I'll bet that it at least saw some soap and a scrub brush beforehand.

Looking up by the number boards, on the PC unit, the paint is peeling badly. This suggests that either the primer has failed or the prep work was faulty. If it was an "environmentally friendly" primer, likely that is the cause.
