There were very few railroads in the USofA (two come to mind) who were able to file tariffs for both Eastern Rate Territory, and Western RT. Can you name any one of them?

Congratulations Brent! That's one of 'em. Now I gotta figure out what your prize will be. How about a cab ride on the F7 at Monticello?

Charlie, I said close 'cause you got me to thinking that the Frisco should have qualified if you think of a shipment from say, Pensacola to Ellsworth. Gonna have to find out why not.

YES! That will be at least $50.00 US and I'll have to wait till late next Spring, they're closed for the season. [IMG]

Now, I wonder which other railroad it might be? I'm not sure where the line is drawn, could it be the Southern? Or maybe the Norfolk & Western after taking over the Wabash and Nickel Plate?

Brent...I think this would all be before the age of mega-mergers...ie: 1940s. The other RR I remember from the article was the Milwaukee, from Seattle to Louisville. The Wabash only made it after they crossed the bridge from Council Bluffs into Omaha. Then the line haul for them was Omaha-Buffalo. Next summer sounds good for the F7 ride. I'll come out and meet you there, we can have a couple of beers and go for a ride back in time!

Well, so far we have four interested people. Maybe this could become the "1st Annual Trainboard.com" gathering! Illinois is centrally located (even to Australia and the UK), so maybe a goodly number of members would be interested. And with airfares as low as they are.......ya never know. Well, what do ya all think? Would it fly, or a bad idea?

I say, LET"S DO IT! Of course, I live here, only 40-45 minutes from Monticello, IL. so I wouldn't have to fly. Neither would RoyalBlue, Ed Pinkley, Mopac, NSbrakeman, Little Giant, and slew of others here on the Boards. Of course, many of the formentioned folks here will be gathering for the Greatest Railway Festival in the World, GALESBURG RAILWAY DAYS, June 22-24, 2001. Might be a better place to gather, besides Monticello sent the Wabash Unit to GBRRD's last year, no cab rides though. [IMG] I think you might suggest this in the Ready Track and see what sort of responce you get there.

I don't do Illinois anymore. I think we'll have our first convention in Maine or New Brunswick to accomodate the fellows coming over from the UK. The Concorde can land in Bangor and Alan probably can afford to charter the thing with all the orders he will be getting. The AU Guys can come on across the US to this side.

    Illinois ----- no.
