Hi, Why does Amtrak always swwitch engines from train to train. I am not sure if that is system wide practice, or just in Seattle, but I find it odd. It would make more sence to mme to keep the unit on at the end of the day, take the whole train when it is time to refuel, and you save alot of time. So why do the switch units all the time? In the last month I have seen 467 469 470 and 2 different "Surfliner" units. I will ask that question the next time I'm in Seattle Dane. I just worked 2 weeks PDX to Eug and the only engines I saw were the 470 & 466. One night had the super set had the 328 with the 466 that was a sweet running train except for having to also have the cab car, seems the 328 is no longer good as a lead unit. No seats or frig gutted in the cab. I'll let ya know what I find out.
Has anyone seen the new paint that Amtrak has come up with on the west coast. Also Do the Amtrak including Amtrak California units F59PHI's run on the Coast Starlight?
Can anyone provide radio channels and frequencies for Amtrak and freight railroads through California
Go to your local Radio Shack and ask for a Frequency Listings Book for your scanner. I can't remember the real name of it, but they'll know what your talking about. They are 100 frequencies used by the railraods hear in the US. My scanner will only hold fifty, but that's ok for where I live and roam. Many roads use the same channels so they know what the other guy's up to. Have fun! ------------------ BNSF RAILFAN-TO-THE-MAX! Brent Tidaback, Member #234 and a N-Scaler to boot! I'm not sure what Amtrak California units look like, but I haven't noticed the word "California" written on any of the engines. But the most common engine is still the Genesis, and every once in a while I still see F40PHs in Phase III paint. If you can't find your radio frequencies anywhere on the internet, I'd highly suggest investing in an Altamont Press Timetable. I just got one for the Northwest, and it has a lot more information than I could have hoped for. ------------------ Mike Smith lcso_927@hotmail.com Eugene, Oregon LCSO's RailPics ~ License and registration please...
