Here's a progress report on my small point-to-point Pacific Wilderness Railway layout (see previous PWR postings).

In the last post I was worried that the small yard was going to be too flat. This shot shows the cardboard risers I've added to give a bit of relief. I've smoothed the transition with Foam Putty.

I've started to add the profile boards to the back of the layout in these shots.

And finally, here I'm starting to rough in the terrain at the back with newspaper. I will probably cover the newspaper with wet paper towels to adjust the final contours before cutting off the top of the profile boards and covering with plaster cloth.

Why not make your hills a little higher, it will add to the "drama" and is quite prototypical of something found in the Fraser Canyon or Thompson River area. It will keep the eyes focused on the layout rather than looking over it.

Good suggestion Rick! I had originally planned that area of the layout as being the highest until I put the layout up on the shelf and the profile boards hit a picture on the wall.

I'm going to follow up on your suggestion though and either move the picture or lower the shelf!!
