Hi, I have the chance to buy 1 of 2 Rivarossi Big Boy's for $160.00 each. #4005 and #4013. they are a friends and he is only willing to part with one of them. which is the better one to get and is that a good price? they are in like new condition. thanks
Hello. I don't understand why you feel you might be making a mistake to choose one Rivarossi Big Boy owned by the same person and not the other. Are you hung up on the numbers of the engines? I don't see why it should matter. Close your eyes and turn three times. Put your hand out carefully and buy the engine with which your hand first makes contact.
one is a little older I think the #4005 has the motor in the cab and I don't remember but i think the other one does not. they look different too, but that is not really the issue. From what I can find the price seems good, but not sure on it. thanks for the reply.
Well I am not an expert on Rivarossi Big Boys in any way shape or form - but judging from a scan of them on ebay I would say $160 is a pretty decent price, assuming of course you have seen that they run well and are in good shape. You say they are like new, do they both come with all the original boxes, papers, etc.? Best thing to do would be to watch each one run. Then, if all else fails....do what COverton says :teeth:
Yes they both have boxes and papers and both run great. One has a silver boiler the other does not. From the prices I saw I thought $160 was good, but I don't know a lot about them. They are older DC units and I did not know if there are certain ones to stay away from. Like I said I think one has motor in the cab and the other has it in the tender. Is one style generally better? I am leaning towards the non silver boiler... Thx guys
