How about the board collecting the best deals on trains. For example, the deal of the week:central coast hobbies has covered hoppers for $1, etc. You avoid the commercialism by submitting the deal by board members. If you cruise the board now, you have this, but in a very informal manner.

Here's an idea from my past experiences when I was a member of a bulletin board for my Cummins Turbo Diesel. We would get a company to offer a group purchase if enough folks were interested. For example: If we had X number of people who would buy a GP38-2, then the participating shop would give us a great discount. There would be a window of opportunity and the shop would have to have a firm commitment in order for the deal to go. Now I know this boards sponser has low prices, but this would be for members of the board and would be lower in price. It might open the door for 1-more exposure for trainboard to other potential sponsers, 2-more customers for more businesses, 3- you name it It worked well for me and the other board, and in fact, quite a few of the automotive boards do this.

There is a website here in Europe where you can buy things in groups and get discounts www.letsbuyit.com. They don't carry trains though. Has anyone come across anything like this anywhere else? Mark __________________ Ratcals Red Ale "Get your hands off my beer"
Gee fellers, I buy stuff all the time with a volume price. I do it with my local NTRAK Club. We will all get together and if something is out there that we want, we will work out a deal for a set number of items at a given cost. Lots of time this is through one of two local Hobby Shops around. Check around with your local clubs and see if anybody would be interested in a deal as such. ------------------ Let's Go Run Trains MARK
Colonel: I appreciate the yellow pages and I know what you are saying. But I also think from time to time, board members hear about a great deal like the cctrains sale a couple of months ago where they offered covered hoppers for .99. Would those great "finds" make the yellow pages? Tigerman
