Hello one and all, i would first like to say hello to you all as this is my first thread. Anyway, the point of this is to repost here with GPS cordinates for your Railfaning Location. this way we can all share the joy of a wonderful location together.

Heres my Favorite place to Railfan, South Academy Colorado. (Joint Line)
    N 38' 57.338, W 104' 50.127

It's a Nice location near a signal, Switch/siding, and wonder scenery including cliffs, pines, and a reflective lake.

    Happy Fanning!

One of my favorite locations is Emerson, GA. It is a tiny town northwest of Atlanta on the CSX W&A subdivision towards Chattanooga. It is about as close as you can get to Atlanta and have "mountains" to railfan with. Looooong passing siding and lots of trains: 60+ a day! Here is one of my favorite spots (if you click the link you will get the corrdinates displayed in FlashEarth):

And a recent video taken in this area:

Not surprisingly, this is the area that I am modeling in N-sacle and Emerson will be the first scene that gets built on the layout. Jamie

    Here's a couple:

    Saginaw, Texas

    32 deg. 52 min. 27.64 sec. N, 97 deg. 21 min. 41.23 sec. W

North of Ft. Worth, Texas- a railfan-friendly location. Two BNSF (ex-ATSF and ex-BN) and one UP (ex-Rock Island) cross at this junction. Three huge grain elevators nearby have their own switchers. Several decent eateries across the highway (US 287), and is the site of "24 Hours at Saginaw" each year.

    Another:

    Cordele, Georgia

    31 deg. 58 min. 11.20 sec. N, 83 deg. 42 min. 51.14 sec. W

NS's GS&F Sub (ex-Southern) and CSX's Fitzgerald Sub (ex-SCL) cross here, as does the Heart of Georgia RR (HOG, running on an ex-SCL branch from Vidalia to Preston, GA. 60-70 freights daily on the CLass 1s, one a day on the HOG. HOG also operates the SAM Shortline train which runs Cordele-Plains. Both CSX and NS keep locomotives in town for local switching work.

You can derive them from Google Maps. That's what I do.
