For those of us in the Pacific Northwest, the Oregon Rail Heritage Center will be operating, for the TENTH year, Holiday Express trains, this year hauled by the S.P. & S. 4-8-4 No. 700. This event is the biggest fund raising effort of the ORHC and helps to finance things such as the overhaul of SP 4449 which is going on. These one hour rides along the Oregon Pacific rails on the east side of the Willamette River are great fun events, especially for families and kids. This year, three weekends will see operations, starting with Thanksgiving weekend, November 28, 29 and 30, followed by two weekends in December, 5, 6, 7 and 12, 13, 14. Tickets are available on TicketsWest, along with the schedule for each day. Rail cars are all heated, and Santa and his elves will be aboard the trains. Yes, Ken, I have a rough time finding my way around Portland in the dark after working there. I have that new toy (Nikon) and may just run up there for one daylight set of runs, just to photograph it.
