The International Port of Coos Bay has hired their first rail official.
Executive Director Jeffery Bishop says that former Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad General Manager Dan Lovelady will oversee the transition.
Bishop added that Lovelady’s duties will also include guiding the railroad thru repairs of the tunnels and the initial start up operations.
Besides working for CORP Lovelady has spent the past 40 years in the railroad business. Lovelady is currently the General Manager of the City of Prineville Railway in Eastern Oregon.
Lovelady says he will divide his duties between Prineville and the Coast in order to get the line up and running.
His first day on the job on the Coast may be as early as next week depending on the outcome of the Port’s request for additional time to complete the closing papers on the purchase transaction.
