The layout is 86x14 inches, made out of 1x3's, and thin plywood. The box shown below is half of the layout. I am trying to figure out the best way to mount it on to my garage wall. It only weighs about 20 pounds, and I would appreciate recommendations. Thank you in advance, John
How about a French Cleat? Then add some legs to make sure no unexpected torque (cat jumping up or kids pulling down on it) stresses the mount.
If each module is about #20....... If your framework is all glued together...just nail it to the wall studs and put some angled 1x3 braces on the ends. Make sure the ends of the modues line up with a wall stud. If the ends DONT line up with a wall stud...You could lay the angled braces flat and nail to wall studs and anywhere along front 1x4 of frame work. ( if the framework is 1x3...the 16d nails would be overkill...lol)
Just one of many examples from Home Depot. They have others that look more elegant and less utilitarian. Try to hit a stud, if not and you have dry wall, get some dry wall anchors. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbil...y-Duty-Shelf-Bracket-EH-WSTHDUS-342/300262644
Good suggestion SLSF. I made French Cleats for heavy shelves in my garage and lightweight bathroom shelves too. Elegant, extremely strong and nearly foolproof, they're hart to beat.
Yeah, I love them - I make my own by ripping (whatever size suits the project, 1x3, 1x4, etc) on the table saw with the blade at 45 degrees. Bolt the base into the studs and you're good to go. That's my "go to" method now whenever wall mounting anything that isn't a picture or shelf...
