So I have a few of these locos and really like them. I have done a couple dcc instals on them and as on the TCS site below it's fairly straightforward. The one issue I have is when I try to fit a 11x15 sugarcube speaker it get tight and a bit difficult. The stupid PCB is just in the way. SO I was thinking why do I even need that PCB. I should be able to hook the decoder up to that 6 pin connector for the loco and then remove and reinstall the rear headlight and be golden. Am I missing something? If not does anyone know the pin out for those 6 pins. I haven't done the connectivity on one but figure the motor and rails connections should have connections with the 8 holes where the decoder is supposed to be connected to the PCB so that should be straightforward. Will positive common show a connection (my guess is not as there is probably a resistor in between). So the two unidentifiable will be common positive and headlight. How would be the best way to find out what is what and test? If i set my dc power supply to 5V and put a 1k resistor on it and then connect between the 2 could i damage anything? If I guess correctly the headlight should light and the + lead from power supply would be positive common again unless I'm missing something. Full disclosure this image is from TCS website: https://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Con...4_Class_J/bachman_Spectrum_4-8-4_Class_J.html If I can ditch the PCB it gives me loads of room in there for for a speaker.
Ok have a weird one. Finally got around to converting one of these put loksound micro 4.0 with dual 11*15 sugar cubes and a firebox light etc. So that part is awesome. Sound is great. Firebox light works like its supposed to etc. Now onto the issue. Put on track and in reverse runs. Put forward and nothing happens. Sound thinks it's going forward and does chuff increase etc. Back to stop and creeps backward. I tested the engine prior to install on DC and worked fine. Where should I start to troubleshoot? I rechecked with the meter there are no shorts or wires in wrong spot. Could it be bad decoder? I really hope not
