I just finished a second Trainworx D&RGW caboose kit. This one is finished in the flashier of the two, if you could call it that, all black Rio Grande caboose schemes. The radio equipped cabooses were originally painted with two horizontal yellow stripes. This kit went together fairly quickly since I had the experience of building the first one. Pat at Trainworx still has these kits in stock. It's a fairly simple hack job on an Atlas Cupola Caboose that involves removing all the body detail and drilling out the new window location, then laminating the brass sides and adding details. I added Atlas friction bearing caboose trucks with Fox Valley Models metal wheelsets and Micro-Trains Z scale couplers. With care I believe the results are better then an equivalent brass model would be and much cheaper. Anyone interested should contact Pat at Trainworx at: trainworx@wic.net He’s' very easy to work with and ships promptly. Check them out here on the Trainworx site. http://www.wic.net/~trainworx/riogrande.htm As I’ve said before I'm not affiliated with Trainworx just a happy customer who wants to see Pat sell out of these so he'll do the riveted side series.

Very nice Erik. I must have a problem. I model BN in '96 and must have 50 projects I've started and haven't finished and yet I want a Trainworx D&RGW caboose kit. Maybe I'll have enough self control to hold out for a CB&Q or NP caboose. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hemi, the 01470 to 01479 series welded side cabooses were built in 1955 and didn't come with the train phone antenna set up seen on earlier versions of the caboose.

    Very nice

If I didn't know better, I'd expect a brakeman to step off it with his grip in hand. Great detail work, :shade: especially with the weathering of the steps and the rust on the couplers.

Makes me miss the Grande quite a bit.

Old post I just stumbled upon - very impressive!

I never knew Trainworx did a D&RGW caboose kit and I've been following Trainworx for the past 8 years.

Not only did I not know Trainworx did a D&RGW caboose, I didn't know I replied to this thread in 2007. I was quite surprised to see my words. But I agree, very impressive.
