    Alright, enough already!!

I love unit trains, but my layout is too small to run them. Now, after seeing these great photos, I'm getting crazy ideas about building another, larger layout. [IMG]

And it's all your fault! [IMG]

Okay, just kidding. :D I'll just have to live vicariously through ya'll. Keep 'em coming, and I'll keep dreaming.

Actualy I don't think there is a length / number of cars requirement, (especially here), for a unit train.

Technically speaking isn't it a series of usually identical cars that are seldom uncoupled?

My unit train is too long to fit in a single picture, the end is always over 30 feet away. How about a movie?

It doesn't have to be Spielburg just some nice Train action as there are hardly any N-Scale Movies except for the Short ones I shoot with my Webcam...

I haven't looked at everyboby's layout but I've seen quite a few of them and I'm very impressed with them. Great job everyone. I'm that much more anxious to start detailing my 12x4 layout the ‘Rio Cobre District’. It is infleunced by my surroundings here in Jamaica, where our only railroad is the West Indies Alumina Company (bauxite railroad). Trains are/will mostly be hoppers and tanks. I think I'll post some pics of the trains on the bare bench work. I'm getting some unpainted versions which I'll eventually custom paint and weather, so if you see a UP or a BNSF lashup it's just for show. I'm in the early stage of track laying, have to get all the measurements correct. Later gents.

Very nice Paul, and an unusual unit train [IMG]

But you need to do your usual great weathering on the gons ;)

Here are a few pictures of a 44 car unit grain train I took this afternoon, just entering the lower spiral tunnel...

    Here is the mid-train unit....

Here is a close up of it...

Just coming down the hill into Field...

And finally stopped on track M4 in Field for a crew change off. There is another westbound Intermodal train sitting on track M1 also waiting for it's crew.

I've been running trains into Field and changing crews. Durring an op session, 1 person will take a train from Revelstoke to Field, and someone else will take it from Field to Calgary.

That's kinda cool with all the different paint jobs. I also think that's a great idea, actually doing a crew change during an operating session.

That is the first time I have seen crew changes mentioned on a model railroad. Great operating method [IMG]

The train looks spectacular too (as does the railroad) [IMG]

Well, i can't believe I'm going to post after the great photos above (Mike, awesome work!).

    Nonetheless...

On the subject of unit trains, I've been acquiring rolling stock to assemble a unit soy bean train for my regional road. Well, the other day my wife let my 6 y.o. son go in the train room to run his Sounder commuter train. Unfortunately, he needed to move my unit soy bean train first. Doh!

There were pieces of couplers on the floor, and there is still a stack of 4 or 5 covered hoppers that I am afraid to even look at.

    Oh well...:)
