    Good Titles Here?

I see a couple of those I like. I don't really have any experience with train DVDs. Does anyone have an opinion on which ones might be good?

BTW, I can't play my VHS anymore, you know. That happens when you go really modern. :D

I bought two. One title offered was Emperer of the North, which I was surprised they carried.

I really enjoy their DVDs. Most of mine are the ones that deal with the American southwest roads and regions, and I bought the Alco series because I like the old beasts. The dozen I have seem pretty well done. They do this sale every year, I think.

    Flash,
I have a bunch of Pentrex DVD's. All are first class. The Mexico Pacifico DVD was first released on VHS in 1992. It is really neat to see how railroading was / is in Mexico. Hopefully, Pentrex will put the rest of the Mexico series on DVD.

Pentrex does a sale every year but this is the best one yet. Take advantage if you can.

    NOW ON DVD!

    SUNRISE/SUNSET - A DAY AT GIBBON JUNCTION!
    73 TRAINS IN 73 MINUTES!

ON SALE THIS WEEK ONLY - $19.95!

Here's your opportunity to sit back and enjoy an entire day's activity at what some say is the busiest all-freight railroad junction in the world - Union Pacific's Gibbon Junction. Fifteen hours of incredible train watching have been condensed into 73 action-packed minutes featuring 73 different trains!

Located twenty-nine miles west of Grand Island, Nebraska, and fourteen miles east of Kearney, Gibbon Junction is the meeting point for Union Pacific's Marysville Subdivision and the east/west Nebraska Division mainline. Pentrex arrived on the scene before sunrise on a long summer's day in 1997. The first movement was captured 6:10 AM and our day ended at 9:00 PM - seventy-three trains later! Freight, coal, and intermodal trains and local freights all make an appearance. Great weather, a fantastic mix of equipment, and the sheer volume of trains combine to bring you a remarkable video experience. Train symbols with origins and destinations are shown for most movements, as well as the time of day and other statistics. Join us at Gibbon Junction, from sunrise to sunset!

    1 Hour 13 Minutes. Product Code: #SUN1-DVD.
Regular Price: $29.95. Sale Price: $19.95! Sale Ends 3/13/07!

I have that on VHS- if you don't like beaucoup trains, don't bother buying :D

This was shot before the new trackwork on the Marysville Sub, which changed things at Gibbon Jct. somewhat. Still, an awful lot of trains, and well worth the money spent. Hate Borgrail all you want, but as far as frequency, UP can put on a show on their Overland Route.

Friscobob gives this two thumbs up:thumbs_up:

    SANTA FE'S MOJAVE MAINLINE!
    NOW ON DVD!
JUST $19.95 UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY, 3/20/07!

    SANTA FE'S MOJAVE MAINLINE
In 1992, Santa Fe was sending train after train across California's Mojave Desert, making the Needles Subdivision one of the busiest lines in the nation. Running between Needles and Barstow, this rugged stretch was an essential link in the railroad's cross-country mainline. It also traversed some of the most barren desert scenery where stark vistas framed by eroded mountains created dramatic settings for high-powered trains. Severe weather conditions put men and equipment to the test on the Mojave main.

Pentrex takes you back to 1992 to witness the struggle as Santa Fe sends its trains over this remote dessert crossing. From Needles, we head west passing Java, Homer, Goffs, Essex, Cadiz, Amboy, Bagdad, Siberia, Ash Hill, Ludlow, and Daggett to reach Barstow. The long grades of the area's hills force the engines to work hard. Overlooking Ash Hill, we stop at a vantage point to watch heavy loads straining over the grade. The variety of motive power spotted along our journey is fascinating and includes SD45-2s, SDF40-2, SD45s, GP60, GP40X, SD40-2s, FP45s, GP60Ms, GE B40-8s and B40-8Ws. As the newer locomotives flash past our camera on the flatlands, red and silver Warbonnet paint appears to leave brilliant streaks of color in the air. Pure sets of power in classic yellow-and-blue paint stand out handsomely against the rough countryside. Our tour includes video graphics to help identify the different photo locations throughout this presentation. It's a view of Santa Fe railroading at its finest!

    Cab Forwards - New DVD!
    Three Years in the Making!
The Most Comprehensive Coverage of Cab Forwards Ever Assembled!
In Stock and Ready to Ship!

In the tradition of excellence seen in "Union Pacific Big Boy Collection" and "Union
Pacific Streamliner Collection" comes this brand-new production --

    SOUTHERN PACIFIC CAB FORWARD COLLECTION
The Complete Story of Southern Pacific's Mighty 4-8-8-4 Articulated Locomotives!

For nearly 47 years, the Southern Pacific Railroad relied upon its massive AC-type
steam locomotives to haul freight and passenger trains throughout California and
neighboring states. Built to provide the power and flexibility demanded by the
mountainous passes they traversed, these giants were constructed with their cab in
front of the boiler, thus earning them the name Cab Forwards. The last Cab Forward
revenue train ran in 1956, after which all but one were scrapped. From then on, film
coverage of these AC-class engines was eagerly sought, hard to locate, and highly
prized. Now, after years of research, Pentrex has assembled an awesome collection of
footage and still images of Southern Pacific AC-1s through AC-12s spanning the years
    1927 to 1956.

You'll see Cab Forwards in service on the Overland Route, the San Joaquin Line, the
Sunset Route, the Coast Route, the Shasta Route, and the Modoc Line. You'll thrill
to incredible images of Cab Forwards in the snow, on grades, bridges, and scenic
valleys; running with mid-train and rear-end helpers; teamed with Black Widow
F-units and GS-class helpers; and in meets with other CF's. The locomotives shown
include nearly every class of Articulated Consolidation SP rostered: the
Baldwin-built Cab Forwards and the Lima-built 3900 class AC-9s. Historic stills of
the original cab forwards, the Baldwin-built MC, MM, and AM class engines, are also
featured. Plus, author Dr. Bob Church and photographer Stan Kistler provide
insightful insiders' views. This is the most comprehensive record of the legendary
Cab Forwards ever presented on film and it belongs in every railfan's collection!

    BRAND NEW DVD!
"SOUTHERN PACIFIC CAB FORWARD COLLECTION" --
WE'RE ALREADY HEARING BACK FROM VERY HAPPY CUSTOMERS WHO ARE THRILLED WITH IT!

It's only been out a week but the praise is rolling in!
"ONE OF THE BEST PROGRAMS ON THE SUBJECT!"
    "GREAT COMMENTARY!"
"UP TO YOUR USUAL HIGH STANDARDS. EXCELLENT JOB!"
    "THANKS, PENTREX!"

Here's a question we've been asked about the SP Cab Forward Collection:
"IS IT MOSTLY FOOTAGE FROM OTHER SHOWS?"

The answer is No! The majority of footage has not been picked up from other Pentrex videos. You may see some familiar scenes if you already own every Pentrex DVD that includes shots of Cab Forwards but the majority is new, never-before-seen images for you to enjoy. We spent years looking for new material for this show in an effort to product the most comprehensive collection possible.

    Another question is:
    "WHAT'S IN THE BONUS FOOTAGE?"

The highlight of the 15-minute bonus footage is wonderful coverage of #4294 being moved into the California State Railroad Museum in 1981. You'll also get more insider details about such subjects as why Cab Forwards were not seen doubleheading freight trains on certain routes, new paint versus steam cleaning, and other interesting tidbits of information.

THIS SHOW DEFINITELY BELONGS IN EVERY RAILFAN'S LIBRARY!

    SOUTHERN PACIFIC CAB FORWARD COLLECTION
The Complete Story of Southern Pacific's Mighty 4-8-8-2 Articulated Locomotives!

For nearly 47 years, the Southern Pacific Railroad relied upon its massive AC-type steam locomotives to haul freight and passenger trains throughout California and neighboring states. Built to provide the power and flexibility demanded by the mountainous passes they traversed, these giants were constructed with their cab in front of the boiler, thus earning them the name Cab Forwards. The last Cab Forward revenue train ran in 1956, after which all but one were scrapped. From then on, film coverage of these AC-class engines was eagerly sought, hard to locate, and highly prized. Now, after years of research, Pentrex has assembled an awesome collection of footage and still images of Southern Pacific AC-1s through AC-12s spanning the years 1927 to 1956.

You'll see Cab Forwards in service on the Overland Route, the San Joaquin Line, the Sunset Route, the Coast Route, the Shasta Route, and the Modoc Line. You'll thrill to incredible images of Cab Forwards in the snow, on grades, bridges, and scenic valleys; running with mid-train and rear-end helpers; teamed with Black Widow F-units and GS-class helpers; and in meets with other CF's. The locomotives shown include nearly every class of Articulated Consolidation SP rostered: the Baldwin-built Cab Forwards and the Lima-built 3900 class AC-9s. Historic stills of the original cab forwards, the Baldwin-built MC, MM, and AM class engines, are also featured. Plus, author Dr. Bob Church and photographer Stan Kistler provide insightful insiders' views. This is the most comprehensive record of the legendary Cab Forwards ever presented on film and it belongs in every railfan's collection!

    NORTHWEST DOUBLEHEADER STEAM
On May 18 and 19, 2007, the Union Pacific 844 and Southern Pacific 4449 steam
locomotives made history by doubleheading for the first time ever between Tacoma and
Everett, Washington. Pentrex was on hand to capture the excitement created by a
private excursion to and from Tacoma and Everett on Friday as well as Saturday's
round-trip public excursion, the "Puget Sound Steam Special." We also followed the
engines on their doubleheaded return from Tacoma to Portland and chased the UP 844
on its way back home through the Columbia River Gorge and over the Blue Mountains of
    Eastern Oregon.

These powerful Northern-type locomotives switched point position at Everett on both
days of the Tacoma-Everett runs. You'll have ample opportunity to see engine looking
great at the head of the train. Cool, overcast weather only served to make their
billowing clouds of steam and smoke even more dramatic! The spectacular scenery
along the Puget Sound created a perfect backdrop for great steam action. You'll see
the locomotives thundering across Salmon Bay Bridge, rolling through Sunnyside Beach
and Harbor View Parks, and racing along the flowing curves of the Sound.
Doubleheaded steam with two of the country's most popular locomotives in one of the
nation's most beautiful sites just can't be beat!

The line between Tacoma and Everett is a busy doubletrack mainline owned by BNSF
with UP trackage rights. This allowed us to see plenty of freight action there as
well as on the trip from Tacoma to Portland and through the Columbia River Gorge. As
a special treat we're including almost one hour of bonus footage featuring exciting
    mainline action!

Approximately 1 Hour 50 Minutes. Product Code: #TAC-DVD.
    Regular Price: $29.95. Pre-Release Special Offer $19.95!

    IMPERIAL VALLEY SUGAR BEET TRAINS
Video Rails was on hand to capture Southern Pacific's last sugar beet train from the
Imperial Valley to the mill near Guadalupe, California so it could record the ending
of an era and now this incredible story is available to you on DVD!

Our journey begins in the lush farmlands of the Imperial Valley, 420 rail miles away
from the Holly Sugar Mill at Betteravia. There you'll watch as sugar beets are
harvested, transported to receiving stations, and then loaded into the wooden
gondolas, with their friction bearing axles, that made SP's unit beet trains so
unique. The loaded trains of up to 100 steel and wooden cars hauling 10,000 tons of
sugar beets depart El Centro, heading toward Taylor Junction in L.A. and along the
Coast Line to their destination in the Santa Maria Valley. Helper units are often
added for the push over Beaumont Hill, as you'll see on several of the trains. At
Taylor Junction, we're invited into the cab of SD40 7349 on the point of a 3-unit
lash-up that includes two SD45s. The cab ride to Guadalupe features tunnels, cuts,
and blue Pacific Ocean views as well as meets and passes with intermodal hotshots
and Amtrak trains. At the interchange yard in Guadalupe, the Santa Maria Valley
Railroad's new GP-9 arrives to transfer the gondolas to the Holly Sugar Mill. Then
we're treated to a complete tour of the refining process, from unloading to washing,
pulping, purifying, drying, and bagging the granulated sugar. This is one of the
most interesting railroading stories ever shown!
