I linked to a photo album site of his in the "Too Much Track" thread in The inspection pit. I thought he had a website in the past, but I couldn't find it. Just links to places wanting to sell you his book.

Phew, almost had a heart attack, when I saw his name as the title....thought I was going to end up reading an obit. Thankfully thats not the case....

Pelle has written several articles for Model Railroader in the past, check out some back issues of those. The August '03 issue has a great article on a handy rerailer for staging yards. In the October 2003 issue, he detailed a U.P. AC4400. He wrote an article in the July 2004 issue of MR that I have referred to a few times in the past about laying flextrack, but goes into more than just the flextrack.

Sorry I couldn't find his website, but he does have several articles out there that may be of some use.

I agree with you on his abilities. His book is well worth buying. His techniques are simple but he really has an eye for color which, in the end, I think is what makes his layout so amazing. Everything blends together perfectly.

Also has a fantastic article titled One Hour Weathering: Add realism with paints and powdered pastels in the current (January 2009) issue of MR. When I get around to my very first weathering job, I am going to try his method. Jamie

EDIT: Also, as for the website, I tend to think that the more "published" a modeler becomes, the less active or available their websites become. Probably because the paying jobs are too time consuming--I hate it when that happens! :)

I think it is more likely legal reasons - I have come across this before. When you are putting most of your know-how into published books there are all sorts of difficulties with rights. Obviously the publisher wants to maximise the sales and since putting the same or similar info on a website for free is likely to reduce sales he will likely ask for exclusive rights. I think this usually applies to articles submitted to magazines as well.
So I would think Pelle has dropped the website to avoid any risk of a 'conflict of interests'.

And before anyone says it - no, I don't think he is selling out :)
I'm sure I'd do the same if the opportunity arose.

I personally don't find his work that extraordinaire, especially not enough to pay 105 euros for a car of his. You people need to broaden your modeling input to more than just Model Railroader.
I would rather have something from Eric Brooman or (insert other great modelers such as John Allen); his Utah Belt (Gorre & Daphetid) has more personality and creativity than another copy of Donners Pass and a few UP locos, but that's just my opinion.:tb-cool:

If all you want to do is copy someone elses layout and work, then you will become less interested in this hobby and be displeased with yourself of the outcome. The modeling is a result of expressing the creativity within yourself, and nothing will make you more prouder of the work you display, than to know it's a one of a kind item that you did with your own hands.

Well LA-DI-DA!!! :):):) Personally I find his work to be incredible; he is definitely one of those modelers that in my opinion has "IT", whatever the heck "IT" is. When I first started looking at the thumbnails in his photo albums, I really thought it was his railfanning pictures that he used for researching his layout. Then I realized they were actual photos of the models. IT! Jamie

Most magazine publishers want a signed agreement that you won't offer the same or closely related material to a competitor. Exclusivity is a big deal. I discovered this first hand when I wrote for a professional magazine earlier this year.

Thoroughbreed, thanks for sharing your opinion. Like you, many of us learn from other modelers. Like you, I find inspiration in Eric Brooman's great work and the legendary work of John Allen. Like others who have posted here, I find Pelle Soeeberg's work inspiring. Like you, I agree there is more to our hobby than Model Railroader magazine can present. Like you and like others who have posted here, I come to Trainboard seeking other ideas from a broader group of modelers.

I find no fault with the content of your statements. Please keep your remarks civil. Once again, thanks for sharing your opinion.

Unfortunately over the last few decades everytime an above average modeler like Pelle comes along, the critics also come out. On the surface they appear to be jealous of the other's modeling or hobby exposure. That's because they always say the same basic statements and likewise the public never gets to see their modeling in which to inspire us.

The furor happened with Malcom Furlow and Tony Koester, among others. I'm opened minded enough to appreciate good modeling no matter if it appeals to my interests or not. These three gentlemen may get plenty of press, but that's only because they were willing to share with others in the hobby

What, those who don't think he's great aren't allowed to have an opinion?

Personally, I think he's MR latest Golden Boy, and actually, I think his star is already starting to set.

His modeling is fine, but not spectacular.

Having an opinion is fine. Everyone has them. However the post by thoroughbreed didn't stop there. He had to throw a dig out to anyone who happens to like Pelle's work. That's the difference.

Now I'm curious, who's modeling do you consider spectacular?

I think that his modeling is superb and he obviously has a sense of photography that compliments his modeling.

I do agree with the argument about trying to copy somebody elses work. I feel that it important in any medium to be inspired by such masters and use that inspiration to develop your own style.

Most of all, just have fun!
