Tillamook, OR As we approached Tillamook, OR I decided to take a quick drive by the small yard there. This too was sad. Ben
I sure hope that things will work in their favor. Each time I am in that area I have a glimmer of hope that I might see some equipment running again. Ben
Wo, Ben, did you not partake of the Oregon Coast Scenic steam runs? They operate Curtiss Lumber Heisler No. 2 and the former McCloud River 2-6-2 No. 25, out of Garibaldi.
Were those SP coaches behind 4406? Do they get any track time? These pics jog another virtually forgotten memory from childhood. One of my favourite storybooks was of some children that find an abandoned loco in an overgrown shed and bring it back to life. Fantasy I know, but without dreams....................................
Hi Jim, We did not ride this year, but we did ride last year. I am pretty sure that I have pictures posted somewhere on the TB of the ride. I will post a link to that adventure soon. Hi Tootnkumin, Here is a photo of the coach that I took back in 2010. From what I have read the Oregon Coast Scenic RR has acquired the es-SP car and plan to renovate it. As you can see it needs a lot of TLC. Ben
Hey Jim, It looks like my coverage of last year's ride on the OCSRR starts on page 45 of this thread in post number 447. Ben
You're welcome Jim! With all of the posts on this site it is easy to forget what you may have already seen. Ben
I'm quite sure that the Portland and Western want their caboose back were it not for the peskey washout. And the sadness of that scene is all relative. I posted pics in 2010 where a bunch of her stablemates had been cut up. At least she still is in one piece.
It sure was sad when we were there in 2010 to see some of the units in the process of being chopped up. Has anyone heard if they have made in progress in securing funding to repair the damage to the line? Ben
I could be wrong, and I'd have to check our own Class II & III forum, but I believe that POTB received FEMA disaster funds to repair the line and they chose to spend them on the industrial park and air field instead. There are no intentions of rebuilding the line through the Salmonberry River Canyon. http://www.potb.org/industrialpark/railroad.html 2010
That explains all of the construction activity that we passed as we drove by the airport. Too bad the money didn't get spent to repair the rail line. Ben
It's interesting that funding was secured due to flood damages, yet was not required to be dedicated to repairing same. Probably all quite legal, yet somehow that doesn't not seem right.
Longview, WA Well I finally had some more time to resize some more photos from last month's vacation so here goes... As we drop back into Washington I caught a few photos in Longview. Here is a BN caboose that I snapped through the windshield. (Sorry about the quality.) Ben
Vancouver, WA Signals along the I-5 north of Vancouver, WA. BNSF off in the distance passing through Vancouver, WA. Ben
Oregon Heading south on our long round about way home I caught the former Coahuila Zacatecas Railway #6 sitting in a shopping center parking lot in Keizer, OR. Then we stumbled upon the former Southern Pacific Caboose #1160 in Philomath, OR. To bad they didn't retain the original SP markings on it. Our last railfan shot in the great state of Oregon on this trip was of the Coos Bay Lumber Company #104. Ben
California Proceeding on to California we stopped in Fortuna for the night. The next morning we swung by the depot to capture a few photos. Northwestern Pacific Railroad Caboose #11 Ben
